Product Description

Book Description

Vicky Hill has two goals in life: to escape the never-ending boredom of funeral reporting and find the right man. Then a tip leads to what might be the scoop of a lifetime. There is a bizarre connection between three grisly chicken corpses and the unusual death of a local hedge-jumping enthusiast Sir Hugh Trewallyn. Suddenly, it seems that this quiet market town harbours more than its fair share of secrets but when Vicky opens Gipping's Pandora's box, her own secrets come back to haunt her...

About the Author

Hannah was born and raised in Hampshire but on leaving school landed a job as an obituary writer/amateur dramatic reviewer for a Devon newspaper. The urge to travel was too strong, however, and she became an air stewardess, first with British Caledonian and then on private planes. Many adventures later she ended up in Los Angeles, where she met her future husband - and still lives there with him and their cat.

I saw this book yesterday on the New Paperbacks rack and picked it up. It hooked me from page 1. I didn't make dinner, or work on my income tax receipts last night. Instead I read "A Vicky Hill Exclusive!" What fun. It's the best modern day British mystery novel I've read since Dorothy Cannell's "The Thin Woman." Vicky Hill is a likable heroine, and she's surrounded by a mad group of British eccentrics. Highly recommended to anyone who's looking for a classic puzzle and sly wit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, Mar 8 2008
By Sarah Smith - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Vicky Hill Exclusive! (Mass Market Paperback)
A fabulous book that transports you to a sleepy village in England. Vicky Hill is a young, single trainee journalist who craves to discover the next big scoop. Despite only writing about funerals, Vicky starts to realise that not everything is as it seems in this quiet village. I would definitely recommend this book, you cannot help but fall in love with all the characters, especially Vicky. It kept me guessing until the end!

5.0 out of 5 stars Agatha Christie meets Bridget Jones, Mar 14 2008
By J. Elen - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Vicky Hill Exclusive! (Mass Market Paperback)
What a pleasure to read this delightful debut novel. The main character, Vicky Hill, is so altogether endearing as she bumbles her way to the doorstep of a local village mystery - which eventually serves as her first front page byline as a journalist. Hannah Dennison successfully delivers a multifaceted story with elements ranging from poignant, comedic, dark, insightful and lighthearted, while seamlessly weaving together the overall message that perseverance will always overcome adversity. A quick read that paints a charming portrait of local village life in England and concludes by sewing up all the loose ends and setting the stage for another Vicky Hill mystery. I don't usually bother writing reviews, but this author deserves some attention. Give it a go...you'll be hooked after the first chapter. And don't be surprised if you find this story being told in movie theatres some time in the near future.
