Ordered this photo frame as a gift, and received a USED one! Really wasn't happy with that, there's marks and scratches on the screen and the back. Dust on the stand, the AC adapter wire wasn't even twisty wired together! Product itself was okay, acceptable user interface, decent resolution, but has poor viewing angle for a company that is known for monitors.

Great gift with high resolution photo display! Dec 28 2011
By jjceo - Published on Amazon.com
This was purchased to be a gift for my wife's parents to hold about 1600 photos of all the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids from over the years. The eight inch screen is an ideal size for a desk or a countertop and the 800 by 600 DPI resolution creates a great photo display that is high resolution and clear. The brightness is very good and is it adjustable if you want to turn it down. The contrast ratio is 400:1 and the photos I displayed are just perfect.

We used the SD slot and inserted an 8 GB card and the photos were all JPEG format. I just plugged in the card and it started running automatically. The unit was well made and it features a one year warranty.

The frame was easy to set up without reading the instructions. It comes with a power adapter and a metal pole stand set to the proper viewing angle. The unit has an SD card slot as well as a USB memory card port. The back of the frame has a power on button that also serves as a home button. The bottom button is the menu button and it lets you setup the photos, calendar/clock settings and the system settings.

The photo selection lets you set the photo display size, display time, transition effect and the mode of displaying the photos like show in order or random. You can also rotate photos, zoom, crop or stretch, and delete photos from the memory cards that are inserted.

The calendar/clock settings allow you to set the date, month, year, clock mode 12/24 hour, and the time. The unit has a very nice display mode where the photo can be displayed on the left side of the screen and the calendar and digital time on the RH side of the screen. This is a very nice effect for an office desk environment.

The system setup lets you set the language of use, and the brightness of the backlighting effect. You can also program power on and power off settings to save power or if this is used in a bedroom just too automatically turn it off for the night. You can even program the auto on/off times to act one time or one of several modes like every day.

The unit can use a USB memory stick but if you get one please get one that is small so it does not extend beyond the side of the frame and ruin the appearance of the unit. The SD card if you use one will not show at all. Make sure that your memory is formatted to FAT or FAT32 format. The maximum memory stick size allowed is 16 GB. There are a few more settings on the device that are disabled and I will not cover them here.

Overall this is a very good fame and well worth the money!

Poor viewing angles; Defective unit Jan. 23 2011
By M. Senn - Published on Amazon.com
I purchased this photo frame from a different retailer in December at a fairly inexpensive price (hence the 2 stars). Setup seemed straightforward at first. The options allowed either clock/calendar OR photos to be displayed, unlike some HP frames which allow photos to be displayed simultaneously next to the calendar/clock. The angle of the stand is not adjustable. Also note, there is no remote or touchscreen capabilites, so all functions must be accessed from rear buttons.

I placed it on top of a 60" high media cabinet, but the photos were not viewable standing up or seated. The viewing angles are severely distorted outside of a sweet spot of roughly 45 degrees vertical up and maybe 25 degrees down. So if you want the photos to appear clear when you are standing and seated, this frame should be placed no higher than 3 feet. This definitely is not the same viewsonic quality I remember fondly from their computer monitors in the 90s.

After playing with the frame for 1/2 hour, I turned it off. One Saturday a couple weeks after I set it up, I noticed that it mysteriously turned itself on in the late afternoon. I thought maybe I had accidentally set up an auto-on feature. I tried to access the menu using the rear buttons, but all buttons (including power) were non responsive. I unplugged the unit for a few days, removed the SD card, but still can't access any of the menu functions.

I asked Viewsonic for an RMA. I will update this post when I get a response, and if I get a replacement unit.

UPDATE: After several weeks, I've contacted Viewsonic multiple times via email and phone. I have a case number but no RMA. Their response is "someone will call me back to troubleshoot." AVOID THIS PHOTO FRAME, and all other viewsonic products. Not only was their product defective, they do not honor the warranty. Zero stars.

UPDATE 4/4: I received a replacement unit under warranty. So far so good. So I'm upgrading to 3 stars. Note: Don't even bother with email for warranty service; just call.

Couldn't be simpler Jan. 29 2012

I recieved this frame for christmas and have been using it for the last month or so. I have greatly enjoyed having this frame in my office. It lets me keep a ton of pictures with out cluttering up my desk. The set up is EXTREMELY easy just load your pictures onto an SD card and plug it into the frame, that's it you're done. There are other features that can be set up but for basic use that's all the set up there is. The resolution isn't high definition but at 800x600 it is clear enough that you don't really see any "grain" and is enjoyable to look at. The calnedar feature is nice letting you display the current month and time along with a picture. My only complaint is I wish the picture would be slightly bigger in this mode, maybe even an overlaid calendar, but it is still functional. For those looking to save energy the frame has a nice auto power option allowing you to set an on and off time that can be daily or a one time setting. Overall I really enjoy having this frame and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.

This frame is very nice. It do not have adjustable stand, that is the only drawback. Except that there is no other complaint.

Pretty good quality image, I believe there should be better ones, but the balance between price and product is still positive.
