DR. PHIBES! Oct. 26 2012
By J. Brewster - Published on
Format: Audio CD
This is another fun collection from Colonial Radio based on the comic book series, Vincent Price Presents. My favorite in the pack is "The Seven Lives of Dr. Phibes" which continues on with the great Phibes movies that Price made in the early 1970s. It captures the mood and style of the movies and I really enjoyed it. I hope they will do more of the Phibes episodes (there is another on Vol. 2, and both of these will be on my ipod for Halloween). "Trapped" is a bizarre and twisted story, and the closest thing that Colonial has done that resembled a slasher movie; but the mood it creates in a dark cellar is very visual and even disturbing, but I enjoyed it a lot. The Effigy is a take on Jekyll and Hyde, and has a great Halloween feel to it (it takes place in a cornfield with a scarecrow - what else can you ask for?), and it also speaks to school bullying. The Best in the Universe takes place in space and a distant planet. While not my favorite in the set, it still has a nice twist to it, which works to its advantage. The gem in this set is Dr. Phibes. I think it's a great tribute to a wonderful actor.

This is not a recording with Vincent Price's voice. Guess I should have read the description better. Won't be ordering any more.
