From the Author
This compilation of Van Gogh's art been more than six years in the making. It's a complete, electronic catalogue raisonné of the works of one of the most popular artists of the last 150 years. Van Gogh took his own life at age 37 after creating some of the most brilliant paintings the world has seen. The painter remains a fascinating and elusive figure to anyone who appreciates his art. My standalone CD-ROM catalogue offers an indispensable learning opportunity for art historians and the general public alike.
Born in the Netherlands in 1853, Van Gogh worked as a teacher, minister and art dealer before he settled on painting at age 27. At about the same time, he discovered the work of the French Impressionists, and the tone of his work shifted from dark and brooding to the swirling, vibrant still lifes and landscapes with which we are familiar today.
Unlike the last *complete* catalogue raisonné of Van Gogh's work from 1970, my catalogue is not only 32 years more up-to-date, but also 95% of the paintings are in colour. For the last complete 1970 catalogue, 95% of the images were in black and white. In addition to having much more accurate and current exhibition and provenance, this catalogue includes some images which have never before been published in colour
This CD-ROM is the *first* complete electronic catalogue raisonné of any artist. I hope you enjoy it!
