While there are larger selections of munro's earlier stories, this one has five long selections in a readable, and reasonably priced, format. It makes an excellent introduction to a modern master of the short story. One is constantly amazed by the thoughtful insights, modern and moral, of our Chekhovian author of tales. From here, one can begin to read the more up-to-date collections of stories of the last decade without feeling that one had missed the earlier evolution of this great writer.
