A Perfect Brillant Movie. Dec 25 2009
By Skygazer - Published on Amazon.com

This film is like if Mad Men had been filmed back in 1955 and instead of it being about advertising it was about a lovely little copper mining town with everyday people trying to do their best in life. Many of the characters here have their faults and no one is perfect, but it makes them that much more enjoyable to watch. The dialogue is crisp and top-notch and if you're not careful will leave you sucker punched with how good and funny it is. And with a couple of lines that should be classics. This is adult entertainment 50s style, which means everything is just beneath the surface and you don't need much to see how real and flawed these folks are...and good too. The all star ensemble cast is top notch, the direction smart the writing timeless and the look and feel of the time makes you long for an older more innocent America, ironically. Oh and if all that wasn't enough you have a bank robbery being planned. You will not be bored, whether lost classic Hollywood movies interest you or not.

Glossy CinemaScope reduced to a 4:3 stream. Jan. 1 2011
By Gary Vidmar - Published on Amazon.com

This is a terrific bourgeois soaper from the golden days of Fox CinemaScope. There's enough main-street intrigue and American anxiety to fill a couple of pictures, and it's all performed with professional ease by a first-rate cast. Hugo Friedhofer contributes a notable music score.
The streaming version exhibits good quality, except for being a relatively worthless pan-and-scan version: the deluxe color is accurate, as is the original 4-track, stereo mix.
Twilight Time Video will be releasing this title on DVD in 2011, in the original CinemaScope aspect ratio (2:40 to 1), as part of their new Fox Classics collection available exclusively by Screen Archives.

""Violent Saturday" A Most Sophisticated Bit Of Action Fare". Aug. 19 2014
By napoleon1 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD Verified Purchase
A magnificent crime drama, full of action and sophistication, a great deal of the latter being comprised of a most devastating irony, and distinguished further by some of the greatest stars of both sexes of the 1950s, including so many of that decades' leading action stars.
Well done heist movie filled with name stars. March 15 2015
By dhart - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
Not a fast paced film, but filled with side stories as the director introduces you to many of the people and their own stories leading to the bank robbery. Stars galore fill the screen as the three robbers, Stephen McNally, Lee Marvin and J. Carroll Nash, arrived in town to case and rob the bank. Victor Mature stars as the foreman of the local company who feels diminished in his sons eyes because he did not go into the service in WWII, instead he was tasked with maintaining the flow of copper from the mines. Richard Egan is the son of the owner who drinks a lot and has a unhappy marriage. Adding to the cast are Sylvia Sidney, Ernest Borgnine, Tommy Noonan, Brad Dexter, Margaret Hayes and Virginia Leith. Lee Marvin turns in a scene stealing role as a thief battling a head cold. Well worth a watch for a entertaining escapism movie.

Awesome Classic Movie Nov. 23 2009
By Carlos Del Campo - Published on Amazon.com

This is a marvelous classic movie, rare appearance of Victor Mature with Lee Marvin. This is how movies should be made, without the present profound use of tech, vulgar language and fake acting. This is truly the way Americana movies assumed a recognized reputation worldwide. Highly recommended for all, the plot is entertaining, the cast well acted, the scenery is classic country and the film well cut.
