Product Description

What was the great turning point in Francis Cabrel’s life, the event that set him on the road to becoming the artist we know today? In 1967, aged barely fifteen, he heard Bob Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone for the first time. Ever since, the American icon’s work has interacted constantly with Cabrel’s, like an inspirational, always impressive, sometimes disconcerting, but never obstructive shadow.Today, their paths meet once again with the release of an album entirely devoted to Dylan songs (adapted into French by Francis).

Excellent French adaptations of Dylan songs. Preserves the spirit of the originals, combined with Cabrel's unique touch. Great arrangements and quality sound.

In France in 1979, I fell in love with Francis Cabrel's jukebox hit "Je l'aime a mourir" and mailed a 45 rpm of it back to my then newly wedded wife, which cemented our relationship. I didn't expect that Cabrel had cut his eyeteeth on Bob Dylan, but here, lo these many years later, are Cabrel's translations and performances of Dylan classics, like "Comme une Femme" ("just like a woman") but she breaks just like a little girl ("mais elle brise comme une petite fille"). And more. Highly highly recommended.

Francis Cabrel C'est Magnifique Feb. 15 2014

Whether you speak a word of French or not, you should listen to Francis Cabrel; his voice and music are first-class. If you're an English-only speaker, this might be the best introduction because every song is a Bob Dylan classic. To people who don't know anything about French musicians, I tell them that Cabrel is something like Jackson Browne; a singer-songwriter who is both a talented musician with a singular voice, whether it's acoustic or electric. He is a unique and powerful artist, and I hope that this album brings him to the ears of people who have never heard him before. I can't imagine a queue of music without Cabrel.
