4.0 out of 5 stars Good, Over-looked 80s Soundtrack May 15 2003
By Westley
Format:Audio CD
I didn't really like the movie, Vision Quest, but the soundtrack is really good. It's likely to appeal to two audiences: 1) Madonna fans, and 2) 80s rock fans. There's a nice balance between pop (Madonna, Style Council), pop-rock (Journey, John Waite, Foreigner), and hard-rock (Dio, Red Rider). Of course, everyone's probably heard Madonna's "Crazy for You," which was her first hit ballad (unless you include "Borderline"). It still sounds great, and is really quite beautiful and sweet. You may not, however, have heard her second song on the soundtrack - "Gambler." It's more of an up-beat pop song. Although it's clearly not one of her best efforts, I think that this soundtrack is the only place to get it. My other favorite song on the CD is Dio's "Hungry for Heaven." I'm not a Dio fan, but this song is more melodic and poppy than most of their stuff - it's really great. If you like other 80s soundtracks (e.g., Flashdance, Footloose), you'll probably really enjoy "Vision Quest."

5.0 out of 5 stars Motivational and good variety July 16 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
If you haven't seen the movie, this soundtrack won't sound too great to you. It will be just another CD from the 80s that we can store in the closer or attic. But for those that have seen the movie (especially wrestlers) this soundtrack is an excellent motivator. Great for running hills to cut that last few pounds before a match/tournament or to pump you up before a dual. This CD also has songs which are just plain good to listen to. It has everything a CD should have. Highly recommended.

At the time this CD was released (along with the movie) most of these artists were chuggin' along with their careers. No one can doubt that each song on this album stirs different emotions from the grasping, almost demonic Lunatic Fringe (Tom Cochrane's Red Rider) to the breakout John Waite pop melody Change to the sultry swaying Crazy for You by Madonna. This album is highly recommended as a true slice of the 80's pop/rock genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Psyche Tape April 23 2000
Format:Audio CD
Well, back in high school I had the tape. I used to listen to it on the way to cross-country meets to get psyched up. There's just not a bad tune on this album. "Only The Young" is the greatest song Journey ever recorded. It was also the last one they recorded with the line-up from the Frontiers album. I also consider it the best song on this album. But all of them are worth a listen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Must have for wrestlers Aug. 9 2002
Format:Audio CD
I'm not much of a soundtrack fan but this is a must have for any wrestler. As a Jr. High Wrestling coach and professional mobile DJ I understand that todays youth have their own music but Lunatic fringe is still among the best songs to play while working out.
