Book Description

Oct. 15 2009
The artists in the flagship volume of VISIONS OF NEVER are among the most talented to work in the field in the past 40 years - the "artist's artists." The included works consist of both illustration and personal paintings, covering every facet of the science fiction/fantasy genre. The vast majority have never been collected in book form, and many have never before been published.

Accompanying the images are essays on each artist, comprised as much as possible from the artists' own words, or those of close associates. These essays provide a feel for the artist as a person, just as the images provide a feel for their artistic vision. Includes work by Paul Lehr, Don Ivan Punchatz, Richard Bober, Rohb Ruppel, Marc Fishman, Mark Zug.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice spotlight on lesser known artists Jan. 12 2010
By Parka HALL OF FAME TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Length: 0:25 Mins
Visions of Never is a book that features six lesser known artists who create fantasy and sci-fi art. Included artists are Paul Lehr, Don Ivan Punchatz, Richard Bober, Rohb Ruppel, Marc Fishman, Mark Zug. I've seen some of their work in Spectrum art books.

There's a nice variety of style, from art you typically see on book covers to fine-art style paintings. There are strange and mysterious planetary art, low brow surreal, old masters and Frank Frazetta inspired pieces. Pretty diverse and different.

The essays are great. They are filled with lots of quotes and insights from the artists. You can read about their processes, influences, thoughts, and how they are affected by how other people think about their work.

This book is recommended for those interested fantasy and sci-fi art.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Art Book Collecting Excellent Artists Nov. 30 2009
By Gregory Obaugh - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Visions of Never is a must have for all fantasy, science fiction, and illustration art fans. If you purchase Spectrum and other art books, you need to add this book to your collection, as well.

There are many illustrations by each of the six artists, along with biographies and wonderful insights from the artists themselves.

Being long-time fans of the genre, and knowing the genre of Fantastic Illustration from the inside-out, Pat & Jeannie Wilshire have done an excellent job creating this book from a fan/collectors point of view, so it is the best of both worlds.

Thanks for an excellent art book. I look forward to the next volume. Hurry up, will ya?!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! Nov. 27 2009
By Gregg Spatz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Pat and Jeannie did an awesome job with this book! "Visions of Never" is one of the best art books of the year and maybe from the last few years. It is well thought out and has great information and pictures from some of the best artists that have worked or are working in the Fantastic art field in the last thirty years. These influential artists include, Richard Bober, Mark Zug, Marc Fishman, Robh Ruppel and the late Don Ivan Punchatz and Paul Lehr.
Anyone that is a fan of the Spectrum series of books should buy this. You will not be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book of fantastic art Nov. 1 2011

The Wilshire's stated goal in the Foreward was to highlight the work of some extremely talented, yet under appreciated artists - and they nailed it.

If this book were merely a well-picked collection of beautiful images, it would have been worth the purchase.

The author's insightful essays & interviews with the artists seals the deal & makes it nothing short of an amazing book.

I hope we get a volume 2!
5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of works by some very fine artists. Feb. 14 2010

There is plenty to view, read, and appreciate here. Each of the 6 artists has 25 to 30 images of varying sizes alongside insightful (and occasionally funny) comments. Each artist is provided 20 pages within the book. It certainly leaves me wanting to know more about these artists and their works. I'm very happy to add this book to my collection of art books.
