Product Description

Back in the early 1970s, when the hippie aesthetic still reigned, Vivienne Westwood was already engineering the outre clothes and accessories that would carry the punk movement across England a half-decade later. Today, Westwood continues to play the role of the fashion world's preeminent iconoclast; her collections are at once theatrical, irreverent, and wholly original. This insightful all-color volume vividly documents both the keen intelligence and the exuberant originality of Vivienne Westwood's career and fashion vision.

Ingram

Vivienne Westwood's iconoclastic career began in 1971, when she and Malcolm McClaren opened Sex, a London boutique selling American rock memorabilia and clothes. Her creative spark ignited the punk and bondage craze. This volume explores Westwood's world of theatricality, irony, and irreverence, where style is often a send-up. 60 illustrations.

4.0 out of 5 stars A note form Maureen Farquhar, Mar 9 2000
This review is from: Vivienne Westwood (Hardcover)
Short and very sweet. This brief book is entertaining. If you like Vivienne Westwood then this is the first book that I would advise you to buy. It is insightful and has some fantastic colour plates. The downfall of some of the other books about Westwood (eg. Fred Vermorel) is that they have too few images, which is bizarre as fashion is about visibility. ciao,

Maureen Farquhar

2.0 out of 5 stars Pictures don't represent quality, Feb 26 2000
By Dorito Henriques - Published on Amazon.com
I had high hopes for this book. There isn't enough out there to visually represent the work of Westwood. These pictures catalogue her work from the early 70's to her latest collections, but none are of high quality decent enough to compliment her outstanding and truly creative visions. Better to spend your money on the "Universe of Fashion" book on her, or if you're looking for literature, check out "Unfashionable Life" by Jane Mulvagh.
