This is what neo soul is all about. D'Angelo's liner notes shout out to Marvin, Sly, Stevie, Curtis... he's picking up where all of these greats left off. Nobody lays it down like D'Angelo, especially on this album. Voodoo isn't just an album, it's an experience. The sexiest album I've heard since Velvet Rope, and it's not necessarily just because you'd find it in the 'strictly for lovers' section at the record store. This album is bold, experimental, and most importantly loyal to the mothers and fathers of soul music. D's voice booms, he picked up all the right players (Questlove, Charlie Hunder, Raphael Saadiq) and his own musical talent is a must-hear. He's different from the other neo soul acts out there, yet you're not going to have much trouble opening your mind up to it.
Stand out tracks include latin jazz-flavored Spanish Joint, the soulful Stick To My Guns, the heart-wrenching One Mo'gin and, of course, the Untitled track that solidified him not only as the soul force of the millenium, but also [for the liking of] ladies!
Sorry that was lame. Seriously though, buy this album because it's sexy, original, and it's a solid listen from start to finish.
