Product Description

Product Description

Digitally remastered and expanded two disc (CD + NTSC/Region 0 DVD) edition of the Swedish Pop quartet's 1979 album now expanded with five bonus tracks plus a companion DVD that contains television performances from 1978 and 1979. Voulez-Vou was the Pop foursome's sixth album and was released at the tail end of the Disco era, coinciding with the marital split between members Agnetha and Bjorn. The CD features the original 10 track album plus five bonus tracks including 'Lovelight', 'Dream World' and 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)'. The DVD features performances, interviews and original TV commercials. Universal.

Nineteen seventy-nine was a year of tremendous change for Abba. Agnetha and Björn had separated, their incredibly popular Abba: The Movie had consolidated their worldwide success, and as if all that weren't enough, they "went" disco. Songs like "Voulez-Vous," the upbeat "Angeleyes," and more throwaway "Does Your Mother Know" embraced the style wholeheartedly, leading some fans to worry about Abba's future for the first time. Where had the pure pop thrill gone? they mourned. "I Have a Dream," meanwhile, with its choir of children singing (recorded live at Wembley Arena, at the final concert of Abba's last world tour), was possibly the most saccharine song they had yet produced. Yet any disc that contained the majestic "Chiquitita" couldn't be completely written off--and the awesome Super Trouper was only a year away. --Everett True --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This is probably ABBA's best CD. Here are the following ratings i gave each song. Ratings range from 1 to 5.
1.Good As New: 4
This song was real good and i liked the lyrics. It's really cool.
2.Voulez-vous: 5
Awesome song! I love the suspension in the music. It's totally awesome!
3.I Have A Dream: 3.5
This song is very pretty. Not one of ABBA's best, but it still qulifies for a very nice and good song. I think most people would like this song. It's very relaxing.
4.Angeleyes: 5
I think this is like one of the best songs ever performed by ABBA. The lyrics as well as the music are so outta this world!
5. The King Has Lost His Crown: 3.5
This song is really funky and it has a weird, cool beat to it.
6.Does Your Mother Know: 5
This song is so cool and i really liek the tune. It makes you wanna get up and dance. I also think that it's nice to hear Bijorn and Benny singing lead vocals instead of Agnetha and Frida. It rocked.
7.If It Wasn't For The Nights: 4
I really like this song. It was very ncie and makes you feel good after a really lousy day.
8. Chiquitita: 5
This song is pretty. That's the one word to describe it.
9. Lovers Live A Little Longer: 5
This song is really weird, but it's inner message is pretty cool. I like this song a lot.
10.Kisses of Fire: 5
This song starts out slow and light and then builds up to an excellent tune. I really like it and the title is really cool.
11. Summer Night City: 5
This is my absolute favorite song off of this CD! I love the retro or disco beat and the way it's so suspenseful and mysterious. I LOVE this song!!!
12.Lovelight: 5
This song is really sweet and i like the chorus a lot.
13. Gimme Gimme Gimme: 5
This song is so weird and funky! I love it soooooooo much! It's kinda creepy with the lyrics and all, but it still bangs!!!!
That's the end and like i said, this is SO the best CD!!!

Voulez-vous is an absolutely amazing album.I love it,but only second to their "Visitors" album. This was a massive album of the late seventies,a great year indeed. This album spawned a number of hits to expand their catalog of hit singles.Voulez-Vous had flown to the top of the US charts and was certified a double-platinum on advanced orders in that year....Incredible.I love the songs "Voulez-Vous","I have a Dream","If It wasn't for the Nights" and "Kisses Of Fire".
Voulez-Vous(the title track) boasts some heavy disco-style music and great sing-a-long harmonies.Perfectly done for a 70's track. If it appeared today,I bet it would still sond massive.I love it the best actually......In French the title means,"Will U" or "Would you"!!
Another great track that deserves mention is "Angeleyes".I think many artists later on also took on that track name....Ace Of Base was one."Last night I was takin' a walk along a river, and I saw him together with a young girl.......don't look too deep into those Angeleyes....oh no no no....." Interesting plot!! hehe.]
Next I loved also "The King Has Lost his Crown".Nice starting to the track.A brilliant keyboard sound....then you hear them start softly and it gradually gets louder.....lovely piece of work for a 70's track!Features Annifrid on the lead vocals here. She sounds great as always......"I believe ,your new girl turned U down. And they say, she's pushing U around....Disaster and disgrace,The king has lost his crown...." Good lyrical stint,it means to show that how an affair could turn out to be unfair in betrayal though.......

By the time Voulez-Vous was released in 1979, the disco era was in full swing, the mirror ball still glittering ablaze. Hence many of the tracks are suitable for the old platforms and flared trousers. However, the usual Agnetha ballads are there, and great ones too. Unfortunately, Bjorn and Agnetha announced their divorce before the album's completion, although their professional relationship would continue as before.
After a quick strings, a funky disco beat and synths kick in to intro "As Good As New," which describes the spirit ABBA has since the merely great Album. A standout track.
The title track, another candidate for Studio 54, has as backing musicians members of the group Foxy, the pulsing bass and burst of horns in tune with the disco era. That's followed by Frida's vocal on the inspirational ballad "I Have A Dream," on that dream or fantasy that make life worth living.
Put on your dancing shoes for the next four songs. "Angeleyes," about a louse who likes to hypnotize young girls with those eyes, is sung from the POV of a former victim. "The King Has Lost His Crown," when he loses his new girl, so the song goes in this Frida-lead song.
I've always liked the catchiness of this tune, but ever since seeing Johnny English, hearing this elicits a snicker out of me. The single "Does Your Mother Know", sung by Bjorn, with its leading bass keyboards and rock guitar, on a young lady who may be out having a good time without her mother's knowledge. It's also the track Rowan Atkinson's character is doing a karaoke to in an embarrassing bathroom sequence, funny faces and all, played to the audience at the coronation scene in the movie. My favourite track here.
