Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Will is new in town, but luckily for her, she runs into Taranee on the first day of junior high, and just like that, a friendship is formed. Shortly after, the two hook up with three other local girls, and a happy little gang results. Together, Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin are the W.I.T.C.H. of the title—a multiracial gang that even includes one girl who isn't stick-thin, something rarely seen in the pages of any comic. The appealing characters share something besides teenage high spirits and sunny dispositions; all have recently begun experiencing strange magical powers they can't quite understand. Irma can make the teacher quiz her only on the topics she knows, and Cornelia can straighten up her room just by thinking about it. Soon the girls are a team formed especially to protect the Veil, the boundary that separates good from evil. With a magical map and powers of the four elements—plus Will's power of organization—the girls are soon fighting evil. There are battles, betrayals and a Halloween dance that turns out to be an unexpected showdown. The uncredited manga-influenced artwork is as beautifully drawn as classic film animation, with some pleasant updates. Already a hit in Europe, this should charm some younger American readers as well. (May)

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool books, Aug 7 2007
This review is from: W.I.T.C.H. Graphic Novel: The Power of Friendship - Book #1 (Paperback)
This is a really great series of books, but it's a bit racist. For one thing, "Hay Lin" is not a Chinese name. It's not a Japanese name. It's not a Korean name. It sounds like a barnyard name or an exclamation (Hey, Lynn!!!) This book is about the start of the group WITCH, and Hay Lin's gramma dies. When Hay Lin is at the funeral, she sees their friend who has disappeared, Elyon. They have to keep looking for her. Exciting, detailed, and just adorable!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful graphic novel for all fans of W.I.T.C.H., April 30 2005
By Rebecca Herman - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: W.I.T.C.H. Graphic Novel: The Power of Friendship - Book #1 (Paperback)
This is the first graphic novel in the W.I.T.C.H. series. It tells the same story as the first two W.I.T.C.H. novels, The Power of Five and The Disappearance.

In the first story, Will is a young teenage girl who is new to the town of Heatherfield. At her new school, the Sheffield Institute, she meets four other girls -- Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin -- and they quickly become friends. Soon after, however, strange things begin to happen in Heatherfield. The girls seem to have developed mysterious powers as well. They learn they are the Guardians of the Veil and have the power and responsibility to protect earth from invasion by the creatures of Metamoor, another dimension that is populated by evil beings. In the second story, the girls' friend Elyon has disappeared, and as they search for her, they encounter more trouble from Metamoor.

Readers of the W.I.T.C.H. novels are sure to love this graphic novel. I like the books, but I really love this comic version so much more. The art is really cute, and beautifully done, and I think the comic format is just so much better for telling this story. I can't wait until the second W.I.T.C.H. graphic novel is released, and I highly recommend this comic to all W.I.T.C.H fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly beautiful graphic novel!, Aug 5 2005
By Joanna Lu "peridots13" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: W.I.T.C.H. Graphic Novel: The Power of Friendship - Book #1 (Paperback)
This book is worth the price and more. The artwork is beautiful and the storyline is innovative and interesting. It'll definitely keep you reading.

This first volume of tk's graphic novel explains how Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin became the group W.I.T.C.H. It deals with them discovering their powers and learning of their destiny as guardians of the veil and to save the land of Candracar. And they have to do all this while dealing with their families, high school, and boys!

Also recommended: the rest of the graphic novels in the series and anything by tk!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my faves,by Dominique,age 10, Jan 2 2007
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: W.I.T.C.H. Graphic Novel: The Power of Friendship - Book #1 (Paperback)
I like this book for a couple different reasons: one is the drawings, another is it kinda reminds me of well, Sailor Moon and Winx. Even though winx is a few years old,(like, 2002 maybe?) and Sailor Moon's from the '90's, I think in a way it went like this: Sailor Moon went on to Winx Club and Winx club went on to W.I.T.C.H.,maybe? Anyway, back to the review..... another reason I like this book is because it puts you in different moods, like, funny, happy, and a I-wonder-what's-gonna-happen- next-mood.Well I better not tell ya about the story if ya hadn't read the book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Don't wanna get the story spoiled, do ya?! And plus, I'll give ya some advice: Don't AND I MEAN DON'T try to read like the end, cause that will spoil it baaaaaad!
