I was very excited when the first season was finally released on DVD as I watched the show through its entire run on network television and it was one of my favourite shows of all time. I know there was a lot of controversy over the music rights etc. It's too bad that that kind of pettiness kept this show away from the audience who loved it for so long.Through this DVD release I have now introduced this fine show to my own teenage children who in turn have also fallen in love with this series and in fact have been asking when Season two will be released. Good question. That is testament to the fact the humour isn't "dated", because good comedy can stand the test of time no matter when it was filmed. My Husband, more a purist, was skeptical about having the show released without the original music intact and even he enjoyed the trip back to visit the memorable characters of WKRP. If you are a fan of this show, pick it up, sit back and enjoy. I don't think you will regret it.

It's STILL Great! (Even With the Changes!),

Well, after hearing so much about how they removed the songs we loved to hear in the DJ booth and the feeds around the station, plus changing some dialog and even editing some scenes, I was pretty upset and planned on NOT buying this box set. Boy am I glad I changed my mind!It wasn't the music that made the show (although had they removed the theme I would have flipped!). It was the CHARACTERS and the WRITING and they're still there and THAT'S what counts! I was grinning or laughing my head off while taking a trip down memory lane! Don't rob yourself of it. Sure it's not 100% the same but it really doesn't matter and most of the time you don't even notice 'cause it's been so long. And if we don't buy enough of these DVDs we'll NEVER see the rest of the series come out and that would be a shame. I'm at WKRP in Cincinnati. So should you!

Don't be swayed by folks that have not seen the set! It's not that bad!!,

I consider myself a HUGE fan of this great show and have longed for it on DVD ever since the format came out. I too was disappointed by reports that some music had been replaced. I consider myself a purist and would love to own the show EXACTLY as it aired back in the day. Having said that, I recieved my set this afternoon from Amazon and popped it in. I sort of cringed waiting for the dreaded "replacements'. You know what? I have a list of songs that were replaced from another website and I HAD TO GO TO THE LIST TO SEE WHAT HAD BEEN REPLACED. YOU COULDN"T EVEN TELL. The replacements were tasetful, in the spirit of the original music and flawless. They did not sound overdubbed or anything. You still have all of the wonderful stories and characters that you remember. If getting this series on dvd necessitates replacement (properly done) of a SONG IN THE BACKGROUND then so be it. The characters and story more than make up for that. Music licensing is a big issue these days. I have read several articles and it would have cost the studio approx. $40-$50,000 per song. Obviously that is not feasible to make a profit. To their credit, they did an excellent job of replacing the cuts the right way. Those who know every line of every episode will probably never change their mind, but FOX has said that they will be watching how this set sells when deciding whether or not to release the remaining two seasons. Don't hold out waiting for a more complete version - IT"S NOT COMING. If you are a fan of the show, by boycotting this, all you are doing is making sure that we won't see any future seasons. Take a chance, spend the $30 and make up your own mind. If you are not satisfied, you can sell it right here on the marketplace. But I have a feeling that once you pop that disc in and you see all of your old friends and their crazy antics, you'll be happy that you took the chance.
