5.0 out of 5 stars Great, Mar 4 2005
By Touch Remedy "TouchRemedy" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Wai Lana Yoga: Relaxation Workout (DVD)
Wai Lana is very true to her art, her stamina & flexibility are amazing. She holds each pose for a good length, describing in details exactly how to move, when to breathe at all times, what to watch out for if your body tries to "cheat", modifications for each pose. The most important thing she does which most yoga DVDs lack is that she tells you the BENEFITS while you are holding them to keep you inspired to try your hardest to get the health benefits. She also uses some moves that are Qi Gong style to increase energy & blood flow. In all her videos, she always works out at beautiful beaches & other landscapes.
My legs, especially hamstrings, were stiff & hurting me before the workout & felt great after. On a pose to fix poor back posture, I pushed myself too much & was in slight pain during & my back was muscularly sore after. The interesting thing was, if I slouched, it hurt more, if I kept my back straight, the pain disapeared instantly. The pain was gone in a few days without any pain meds, heat or ice or anything which I normally never bother with.
The only cons are that some people have said her accent is hard to understand, but I, who usually do have trouble with accents, did not. She speaks in a unrushed, calm tones. She also uses gaudy makeup & very colorful outfits. But those complaints are shallow, and all that matters is the teaching ability for a safe workout.
I wish more yoga videos taught you benefits as you did the poses to keep you inspired.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not as easy as it looks, Sep 17 2005
By V. Gray "honeyluna1221" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Wai Lana Yoga: Relaxation Workout (DVD)
This workout was not quite as easy as it looks. There were many beneficial things to learn and the workout was different than most yoga dvds I have at home. That is a plus. The workout did relax me. I wasn't quite sure what to make of the colorful garb Wai Lana was wearing and the makeup was a bit over the top. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE bright color in makeup and clothes, but this was a little crazy looking. Did the makeup artist that did her face ever hear of blending and softening? Maybe Wai Lana wanted this effect to give you a happy sort of feeling at the end of the workout? Who knows. She is a happy person and interesting to watch. Her accent was a bit noticeable but didn't bother me at all. I found the workout to be a challenge, even though it looked easy. It wasn't at all. I didn't quite get the meditation at the end. I was hoping for a guided meditation but you were expected to listen to a song and come to your own conclusions. The transitions were a bit choppy from pose to pose but that is a minor complaint. All Yoga DVD's have somewhat of an awkwardness about moving on to the next Asana. Breathing wasn't discussed in great detail but she did prompt you to breath in and out in some positions. All in all I liked this routine and will use it for relaxation. I have many different DVD's for YOGA to suit my needs at any given time. I plan to buy more as one type of Workout is not enough. Here is my list of favorites:

1) YOGA ZONE-Flexiblility and Stress release (Alan Finger)
2) CHAKRA YOGA-Balancing body's energy center (Gurutej Kaur)
3) YOGA CLASS -Felxiblity Fitness Relaxation (Gary Bromley)
4) SACRED YOGA-Practice Vinyasa Flow (Ranbeau Mars)beginners

If you can only buy one, buy the Yoga Zone-Flexibility and Stress release (Alan Finger) and work up to the harder parts. It is the best one out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars definitely relaxing, but you'll feel the workout, July 26 2006

Yes, the relaxation is the after effect of this one. Don't plan on just sitting and meditating. Wai Lana focuses very specifically on strengthening and toning muscles at a slow steady pace. Of the three beginners workouts, this is no less challenging. Like Wai Lana's other DVD's, if I can't reach as far as she does, I don't sweat it or strain myself. I just do what I can do and then I feel great afterward. Like the other Wai Lana workouts, the music is nice, the scenery is the most beautiful, her voice is soothing, and she even wears flowing, colorful outfits. I have the Beginners and the Toning Workout DVD's as well and I love all three.
