Good Concept, Bad Ending,
By Thoth (Newmarket, Ontario) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wanted (Paperback)
Good concept (a dark version of 'Harry Potter'; you know, wimpy character discovers he's 'inherited' greatness) set in a world of bizarre super powered villains at odds with each other. Twists and revellations (and intrinsic artwork) kept me reading, but the payoff left me cold. Funny? Satirical? Insulting? Condescending? Couldn't tell. Whatever the intention, it didn't mesh well with the tale.

A great escapist fantasy,
By
This review is from: Wanted (Paperback)
If you've ever felt like being good and following the rules has always left you in the dust then this book is a great escape for you. The story looks at what it would be like to live life as a bad guy and do anything you want to do without consequence. There are some fun twists and turns in the story that is well paced and beautifully illustrated. While this is a comic book it is most certainly not for children or people that have difficulty separating fantasy from reality. The story can be gruesome at times and just about everyone in the book behaves poorly so don't go looking for any role models. My biggest complaint doesn't have to do with the book but it has to do with the movie. It would be more accurate to say the movie was inspired by the book than to say it is an adaptation. The story lines do have some similarities but the differences are great enough that they should have different titles to avoid confusion. I quite enjoyed the escape the comic provided me and regularly share it with my friends who also enjoy Millar's imaginings.

Good Art - Good Writing - Poor Story Line,
This review is from: Wanted (Paperback)
While I appreciated the artwork and the quality of Mark Millar's writing, the overall story line was dissappointing. Maybe it is the idealist in me that likes to think inside everyone there is some good.
