Dull Interlude in the War of Kings, Mar 24 2012

This volume reprints Marvel Comics' War of Kings: Darkhawk #1-2, War of Kings: Ascension #1-4, War of Kings: Savage World of Skar, and War of Kings: Warriors #1-2.I found this to be an uninspired volume in the current Marvel Cosmic serial, when compared to much of what has gone before, with minor characters and what appears to be an attempt to give Darkhawk a boost into Nova territory with an expansion on his backstory and then throwing him in the deep end with the Shi'Ar. The subsequent issues are filling in backstory on characters such as Gladiator, Blastaar, Crystal and Lilandra, along with a team-up between Starbolt and Gorgon on Skar's world. There are several seeds planted for the future mixed in, but it seemed to be a cobbled-together collection with uninspired art and writing, though not surprising when you consider the competition from previous volumes. I have given it four rather than three stars because of that.
