One Of The Best Video Game Scores Out There, Dec 1 2011

Velasco and Dikiciyan are no strangers to video games. Velasco himself has composed music for God Of War 3, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and many more. Dikiciyan has done Borderlands and has co-composed with Velasco on a handful of games. So, this is not new territory for either composer. The result is an extremely fine tuned action score with a huge scope. The theme is ever so simple, but the sound is extremely grand. The approach and execution is excellent; the result is a rousing action score worth revisiting again and again.
Now, the second you hear the first few track you may be like "well, that sort of sounds like the Star Trek trailer". Yes, some of the arrangements are extremely similar to "Freedom Fighters" by Two Steps From Hell, but we slowly move away from that into some wonderful tracks that lead us into an intriguing universe. The music is not a synth bashing score with a screeching choir, which seems to be all the rage these days in action games. Some of the tracks are quite elegant as they lead us into the more action heavy tracks. The fact that this is an orchestral score really brings to mind Star Wars and other grand orchestral soundtracks. The music is constantly engaging and never lets go of the listener. Medal Of Honor fans will love the orchestral approach as it's the same one that Giacchino took. There is some electronics that act as an undercurrent, but they never take over. Quite honestly, I was shocked at how good this score was. The music is heroic, emotional, grand and is some of the best video game music I've heard.
If you can move past the fact that the big hero motif sounds like "Freedom Fighters" then you will enjoy this amazing score. This is the best Velasco and Dikiciyan have done. Space Marine sits with Metal Gear Solid, Medal Of Honor, Crysis 2, Final Fantasy and Uncharted as some of the best game music ever composed. This is fantastic and you shouldn't wait to dive in.

While I played Space Marine I also got a taste of the background music while progressing through the game. When I found out there was a soundtrack available as well it interested me. Once I popped in the player I sat through start to finish. The music has the flavor of an epic with a gritty and gothic lilt that keeps your ears glued to the speakers. Definitely would recommend!!

I've always liked Orchestral music. It's such a great break from all the rap "artists" that rip each other off to no end. Lots of deep horns plenty of thunderous sessions, and war drums round off the epic feel. The music could've been a standalone and is on par with groups like Vendetta and Two Steps From Hell
