A useful, pint-sized guide that fits in your back pocket..., Nov 4 2010
By Mark W. Bellomo "-- MWB" - Published on Amazon.com
As the author of this book, I feel compelled to comment upon the tome in order to better educate those of you readers searching for a Transformers guide.
Warman's Transformers Field Guide is the PERFECT book if you're a CASUAL fan of the original Generation One Transformers action figures (produced by Hasbro from 1984-1990), OR if you're trying to introduce a NOVICE to the revered toy line. Each and every Generation One Transformer is pictured in full color in this guide at least once, and prices are given for each toy as well. The size of the book is 5" x 4" by 1 1/2"--so it's quite small (will fit in a large back pocket or purse), but packs quite a punch. The tome is broken down as follows:
a) The first 35 pages (pages 1-35) consists of front matter, an abbreviation of grading standards, and from page 10 until page 35, there's a FULL list of every Generation One Transformer ever made, arranged by year of release (1984-1990). EVERY G1 Transformer is listed with its price on the secondary market.
b) Beginning on page #36 (until page #506), there is a FULL COLOR PICTURE of every G1 Transformer produced by Hasbro from '84-'90. Each Transformer is pictured at least once, with a caption and a price.
c) Although considered an accurate and effective price guide when it was released in October of 2007, due to the super-popular Transformers films of the past few years (Transformers [2007] and Transformers: Rise of the Fallen [2009]), the prices for vintage Transformers toys have SHOT UP THROUGH THE ROOF. Please consider this when using the tome as a price guide: these prices are naturally outdated. Perform a "Completed Items" search on eBay to gauge a more accurate cost for each G1 Transformer.
d) Pages 507-510 provide the reader with an easily-navigable index for all of the G1 Transformers mentioned in the book.
Although not a completely in-depth Transformers Guide (that was NOT its intention; if you require a more in-depth, sophisticated, detailed guide, choose the MUCH larger and SUPER-COMPREHENSIVE Transformers: Identification and Price Guide), Warman's Transformers Field Guide is the perfect book (gift? stocking stuffer?) for a younger or novice Transformers fan. It's a fun way to get introduced to the original toy line!

Transformed into a fan, Dec 10 2009

In 1984, Hasbro quietly infiltrated the toy aisles with a series of robots based on Japanese toys. These "transformable" robots were divided into two camps: Autobots and Decepticons. The two sides provided children with classic "good versus evil" battles. More than two decades after their release, Transformers are hotter than ever. As a fan and collector, I find that Warman's Transformers Field Guide provides a super guide to the toy that dominated the Toy Universe in the 1980s. With page-after-page of color images, descriptions, secondary market vales, history and collector tips, Transformers Field Guide offers a dynamite view of this fantastic collectible toy.
