Book Description

Feb 8 2007

Once a dedicated soldier of the Knights Templar, Derek de Molay was betrayed and killed. So instead of an eternity in Heaven, he has decided to battle the Dark Angels of Hell. But as the war between good and evil rages, he is summoned back to the mortal realm to protect a woman standing too close to the edge of darkness.

Rachel Duncan has never felt this way before. A mysterious man is intent on seducing her with expensive gifts and trips on his private plane, yet it is Derek, a breathtaking stranger, who tugs at her heart. With him, there is laughter, light . . . and love. But Derek tells an impossible, insane story, though deep in her heart she knows it to be true. Now Derek and Rachel must race against time to save the mortal souls of mankind . . . and each other.

From Publishers Weekly

Starred Review. In this, the first book of a new series, veteran fantasy author Margaret Weis teams up with daughter Lizz for a smart, high-speed paranormal romance refreshingly free of vampires and werewolves. After a few Dark Angels escape from Hell to stir up trouble on Earth, Derek de Molay, a former Knight Templar and now a stubborn, headstrong angel, gets stuck with a less than agreeable assignment: go back to Earth on reconnaissance disguised as a mortal, complete with a real human body and orders forbidding him to use his powers. His mission is to watch over Rachel Duncan, a plucky young commodities trader in Chicago who's just become involved with a mysterious, charismatic and very wealthy client named Andreas Zanus. Soon it becomes clear that Zanus is one of the Dark Angels, and his designs on Rachel aren't exactly romantic. With a playful sense of humor, a page-turning plot that keeps Rachel and Derek just close enough to throw off sparks, a tightly constructed supernatural world and plenty of suspense, readers will have a devil of a time waiting for the next installment. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read Feb 20 2008
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I really enjoyed this novel, it pit good against evil in the form of a brooding warrior angel "Derek" with the suave archdemon in human form. The women is placed unknowing between the two in the battle, at stake is her soul and the souls of all humans.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not up to snuff Jun 12 2007
By Elaine C McTyer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The cover and blurb on this book sound great, but the story is fractured and never quite comes to drawing you into the story. I was disappointed but this is a new author and a new outlet for Margaret Weis. Maybe they will get better with time. However, I will certainly wait for the reviews before I buy again.

Derek is a Templar Knight, when they were destroyed by the pope on Friday the 13,1307, he withstood his torture and finally murder. When he gets to heaven he blames God for letting him be overcome by the forces of evil. He refuses to go into heaven and continues to fight in the war against satan.

Rachel Duncan is a Wall St executive and the center of a plan by the dark to cast the world into a time of crisis. She is wined and dined by Zanus. Derek is sent to stop her and help her over come the evil tempting her.

The writing about the stock market was very real and so the threat seemed like something we face every day. I just didn't get the whole scheme as anything other than business as usual. The interaction between the angel and Derek was supposed to be humerous but how do you be funny and fight armagheddon at the same time. It doesn't work. The book doesn't work, the romance is totally absurd and so is the ending.

Do not waste your time or money.

1.0 out of 5 stars I expected an ocean and got a puddle April 2 2007

The plot was sorely lacking. I didn't have much empathy for any of the characters and I picked out the antagonists as they were introduced. The characters themselves were too cliched. A blonde haired, blue eyed angel of light and the darkly handsome devil. Give me a break.

The little bit of romance sparked at a point, but ended up fizzling to nothing within a page.

I had to force myself to finish the last few chapters and I couldn't even make myself read it all. The ending really rubbed me the wrong way and I gave away the book in disgust. It was a waste of the paper it was printed on.

The only good thing about it was the preview of another book in the back.

3.0 out of 5 stars Warrior Angel Mar 29 2007
By Cole - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book was just ok!

It had lots of potential but it just never got there..

I was glad that it did not have a three page sex scene every five pages ...which is something new for the Romance/Paranormal books these days. That was a nice change.

Not sure what I expected but considering Margaret Weis is a well known sci/fi writer I would have expected something a little more fast paced and not so slow to develope.

Like I said it was ok...easy to follow. You know who the bad guy is from the first time you meet him. The good guy is good looking and nice almost to nice. And the take a cat for daily walks. I guess that is where the sci/fi part come into play in this book. Cats don't go unless they want to go.
