Book Description

Mar 1 2001
A chronicle of the life and deeds of Thutmose III, great lion of Egypt, told in his own words to Thaneni the Scribe

Exciting military history cast in the mold of riveting historical fiction; Gabriel has written the best historical military account of the ancient world ever! Truly unique in its comprehensive treatment of the human experience of war.

Warrior Pharaoh is a work of historical fiction that tells the story of the life and deeds of Pharaoh Thutmose II (1480-1426 B.C.) of Egypt, one of the greatest political and military leaders of the ancient world. Written by one of America's premier military historians, the attention to historical detail is exceeded only by the story's fast pace and riveting adventure as the author tells the tale of Thutmose's early life, rise to power, defeat of his enemies, and rule over Egypt in the 15 century B.C. The portrayal of life, love and war in ancient Egypt offers a historical tale of human adventure from which the reader will learn much about how best, from the personal perspectives of those who lived and made it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Warrior Pharaoh Mar 2 2003
By A Customer
Warrior Pharaoh is a chronicle of Thutmose's life up to the time when he takes the throne. The book presents an interesting picture of what might have transpired during the years when Hatshepsut held the power. Only once in the story does the narrative fail-when Thutmose takes off on a trip to the Delta and a beautiful girl is killed, resulting in Thutmose witnessing a gruesome mummification procedure. Otherwise, the story flows and gives a credible explanation for how Thutmose survived the reign of Hatshepsut. Gabriel's readers hope that a sequel is in the writing to enlighten us about the reign of the hero.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thutmoses III Lives Again! Dec 25 2001

Richard A. Gabriel gives a vivid, uncluttered work of historical fiction about the "Napoleon of the 18th Dynasty", and it hits all the right notes. His friendships and battles are desplayed with a rich flair that brings a world of about 3400 years ago totally alive. Even if you are not a great Thutmoses III fan, the book is as good as a historical can get. And those of us who ARE fans of the original King Thut can see his life dramatized both realistically and with great dignity.
4.0 out of 5 stars A good historical novel by a military historian Mar 23 2007

The author has written about 30 books most non-fiction military history. He was a member of the War College, an elite position, and is a military historian, so he is perfect to write a fictional biography of Thutmose III the "Napoleon of Egypt". There is a sequel, "Lion of the Sun". Both are good, very interesting and well written.
