5.0 out of 5 stars An Immensely Useful Tool for Today's Hordemaster, Jun 4 2004

This review is from: Warriors: A Comprehensive D20 Sourcebook for Fantasy Role-Playing Games (Paperback)
Skirmisher Publishing's Warriors is a top-notch d20 supplement that goes a long way toward optimizing the potential of the oft-overlooked Warrior NPC class.

While the art and layout are not quite up to par with the products of some flashier publisher's, the content (the meat of it) is excellent. Full of good crunchy bits with amazing historical and speculative detail to explain the differences between the miriad different types of Warrior.

I found some of the prestige classes especially useful, bith for NPC and PC use. The Aerial Cavalryman has just become an integral part of my ongoing campaign.

While some of the material seems suited best to a purely historical setting, I'm sure that many GMs had, until recently, completely overlooked the usefulness of having elephant driving mahouts in their fantasy armies (or, if elephants are too scarce, perhaps triceratops could fit the bill).

In short, pick it up. It is well worth the price, even if you only use 1/8th of the material inside for your game.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great "How-To" Manual, May 12 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Warriors: A Comprehensive D20 Sourcebook for Fantasy Role-Playing Games (Paperback)
One of my long-standing beefs with the Dungeons & Dragons rules is that they have been frustratingly vague when it comes to defining the differences between various troop types. Until now, the only real differences between a Heavy Infantryman and a Light Cavalryman--or any other types of soldier--was how they were equipped. "Warriors" addresses this subject in a substantive way, however, and defines dozens of different troop types--through thoughtful new feats, prestige classes and skills--in terms of what they can do, not just what they carry around with them.

Brilliant. Recommended for anyone who wants to include an exciting variety of Fighters, Warriors, military Paladins and Rangers, martial Clerics, etc., etc., in their games. Probably the best d20 book I have ever seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charioteer needed, Circus Maximus!!, May 3 2004

So you want to race a Chariot or drive an Elephant into your enemies!
Then this Book 'WARRIORS' is the one for you.
Just watch out for those blade spinning wheels!!

Warriors is a great Sourcebook for any RPG game, while written for the d20 system it can easily be of great help in other games. From the beginning to end it is packed full of great information on all sorts of cool warrior subtypes, rules of play & magic. Need new enemies for you latest campaign then add a subtype to the warrior class like Beast Handler or Prestige Class: Zealot and send your players into combat overdrive. They have skills in here for Balloons & Blimps so you can spy on the Big Bad Evil Guy! Watch out for his buddies they may be riding flying dinosaurs and be Aerial Cavalryman.
A full assortment of historical weapons, armor and spells for battle. One spell gives you extra arms for extra attacks! That's just too neat for me, imagine a charging line of barbarians with four arms each and they're in full battle rage, Cool!!
WARRIORS is great and the price right too, I got my copy.
