we started using this training method on our first dog. its not what it is cracked up to be. I will not use this method anymore. I prefer positive gun dogs instead. much more productive and positive for the dogs. This suggests hitting an abusing your animal so that you are dominant. Well I dont agree. there was a time and a place. This is useful just use with a grain of salt.

I found this book by accident 8 years ago in Alaska, just before getting my first Lab. After following his adivce to the letter and working hard with the dog for months, I have had an incredible friend and faithful companion ever since (a little trite perhaps, but very true!). It was almost uncanny to see the dog respond almost exactly as Wolters describes, and develop into an excellent dog. For years, neighbors and friends have remarked about how well behaved 'Yukon' is - perhaps the best compliment a dog owner could hear. When one of my friends told me that he was getting a new retreiver puppy in a few weeks, I immediately thought that the best favor I could do him and his puppy was to get them a copy of this classic (and perhaps one for myself also!).

I used this book for my first lab, and it was invaluable! If you can read, you can use this!!!! I even recommended it to a friend, training a mixed puppy! I found the basic commands are perfect for any dog/ owner!!!

Great book For training a Hunting Lab
The way the book is written is excellent but it is specifically written to trian a Labrador for duck hunting. Some of the points mentioned are good for all labs.
