Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

The author, a physician trained in Iran (Your Body's Many Cries for Water), not only believes that drinking water is healthy, but makes extravagant claims for its curative powers. He recounts here how he first discovered the healing abilities of water, when he was a political prisoner more than 20 years ago. While incarcerated, he successfully treated with plain water the stress-induced peptic ulcers that afflicted some of his fellow prisoners. According to Batmanghelidj, most people rely on dry mouth to signal thirst and as a result are seriously dehydrated. He posits that symptoms like fatigue, anxiety or depression indicate dehydration, which may result in serious conditions such as asthma, hypertension, brain damage, cancer, constipation, allergies and obesity. In order to compensate for fluid lost through urination, respiration, and perspiration, Batmanghelidj suggests drinking a minimum of two quarts of plain water daily (not alcohol, caffeine beverages or juices). In order to maintain good health, he also advises ingesting half a teaspoon of salt to balance water intake. In addition, a diet consisting of 80% fruits and vegetables and 20% protein should be followed along with an exercise program. To back up his theories, the author presents a wealth of somewhat confusing medical data as well as patient anecdotes that testify to water as a cure for various diseases. Batmanghelidj does state, however, that those diagnosed with specific conditions should not stop taking their medications abruptly, nor should they embark on a water regime until they have consulted with their physician. This controversial program will have the greatest appeal for devotees of alternative medicine.

5.0 out of 5 stars We are made of mostly water!, Mar 10 2004

This review is from: Water for Health, for Healing, for Life: You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty! (Paperback)
Dr. Batman.'s advice is very helpful. I read his first book many years ago and found this book to be a well done revision with much new information.
I tell my readers about this book as I think it spells out very clearly the health benefits that can be realized from drinking water, not just for weight loss but for all areas of health improvement.

To NOT drink the amount of water that Dr. Batman recommends is just plain stupidity! I don't agree with 80% veggies/fruits and 20% proteins.....what about whole grains? But I agree with more fruits and veggies than anything else!

Get this book and follow it! Your body will thank you!

It makes total sense: keep a constant level of hydration in a machine made of 75 percent water, and the machine runs optimally, eradicating toxins, digesting nutrients, providing energy. But it certainly won't make any money for big-Pharm, Dr. Pill and the food-lite industry, and that's what we're all here for these days isn't it?

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! Water for acne relief!, July 16 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Water for Health, for Healing, for Life: You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty! (Paperback)
I was recently on a very hectic business trip for a week. During that time I only drank maybe one small glass of water each day, usually just before bedtime. By the end of that week, I had broken out in a really nasty batch of acne. I've been battling adult acne for years. Recently I've been trying to control it with diet. But, still, it wasn't completely under control. When I got back from my trip, the copy of Dr. B's book I ordered had arrived. I always knew water was good for the skin (as well as the entire body) but I wasn't drinking nearly enough of it. I immediately put the "water cure" into practice. By the end of the second week my skin was almost completely clear. I had even lapsed a bit in my dormal diet of mostly fruits and vegetables and had some cheese pizza and soft drinks, which I always thought contributed to my acne. It turns out all I really needed to do was drink more water! And now I'm feeling relief from lower back pain as well! Buy this book!
