Review

"In this visually striking book the author clearly explains how to create the shapes and textures of fruit, vegetables and blossoms, with detailed step-by-step instruction."  —Leisure Painter

Product Description

By first explaining basic techniques and color selection, this guide for botanical and amateur artists of all skill levels shows how to capture the individuality of blossoming artichokes, the smooth contours of eggplants, the sumptuous reds of glossy peppers, the cool yellows of bananas, and much more. Using traditional methods that include overlaying washes, dry brush techniques, glazing, and masking—sometimes with an unconventional and amusing twist—the amazing paintings and vibrant palette showcased here clearly explain how to create a terrific selection of shapes and textures, each accompanied by detailed, step-by-step instructions.

I followed the directions in this book for painting fruits and vegetables, and I was very successful for my ability level. The color mixing instructions are very good. This book is very encouraging to me, and I'm sure it will be for others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Botanical Vegetables, Jun 12 2010

As a teacher of Botanical art I look for books that demonstrate step-by-step samples of how to paint plants.

This book is an excellent example of the above. Starting with a tea wash and gradually building the color until the painting is finished.

It is easy for a beginner to understand and follow.

4.0 out of 5 stars painting veggies, Aug 9 2010

This book has beautiful illustrations of vegetables and fruit to do in watercolor. However, it is not for a beginner. The step by step instructions are very helpful . The author also gives you his color mixes. As a painter for over 8 years , I am still practicing the leaf instructions, to perfect them any where near the authors.
There are few books on vegetables and fruit in watercolor , this is a good edition to add to your library.
