Universal has done it to us again using the same cover picture as the extended edition which is 177 minutes but this crap from January 2012 is only 136 minutes long.
Don't upgrade keep your DVD edition until such a time when Waterworld Extended Edition Blu-Ray comes out if ever. What kind of 100th anniversairy edition is this without the missing 21 minutes extra?

Waterworld(released July/95) stars Kevin Costner in his co-produced epic of life after the big warming;global warming that is.This is the newly released two disc version giving us the original theatrical version(2 hrs,15m)and a new extended directors cut(2hrs,57m).The topic here has certainly come back into vogue since the movies inital release and should be of special interest for those who philsophically lean in that direction.Pilloried at the time by critics,I have always thought either Costner wasn't living up the standards set by the critics at the time,it was bad timing or a little of both.It certainly was NOT a bad movie, but while not a great movie,it does have a nice flow, plot and grand look that deserved a much better reception in /95.We now get to see it the way it was meant to be seen.
The story is set in the future and the Earth's ice caps have melted, drowning most of the land and creating a world of water, whose remaining inhabitants live a catch-as-catch-can type of life on whatever floats. Our protagonist(Costner)called the Mariner,lives/travels on a large trimaran by himself periodically passing others in all types of sailing vessels.Clean water and earth/dirt are expensive and prized commodities in this future and as such are not something to be flaunted about foolishly as there are those that would take and kill for them like Slavers and Smokers(both pirates of a sort).Every so often one will come upon floating "cities" called Atolls at which time one can trade or barter what one has for items of neccesities.
The Mariner comes upon one of these floating round enclaves and enters it.He has dirt to offer and he is rewarded handsomely.

Was a great movie - lots of action, no dull moments, kept you on the edge of your seat of what would happen next. Enjoyed this movie as this is what could happen in the future.

Let's face it, it was a step back. No, five steps back. The plot is unappealing, characters are shallow, and acting - except for Kevin Costner's - is dull. First fifteen minutes created very depressing mood and if it was not for Costner, I would have turned it off. Two stars only for the main character and his energy that he put in this movie.

The premise of this video is flawed; if all the ice in all the glaciers of the whole world were to melt, sea level should only rise about 300 feet...that would be bad enough. Suspending disbelief for the show, though, the thought is intriguing. What if the whole world flooded, and just the tallest mountain peaks were still dry? So much of what we depend on, is land based, and the planet is 3/4 water right now. The story line pits ''the Smokers'' against what's left of the population, because they feel that they represent progress....The smokers are up against a time limit though; they're rapidly running out of fuel and may have only 3 or 4 month's worth of fuel left. All could be salvaged if they can find the way to some 'dry land' somewhere and start over again. The story is not actually about the smokers however, but more about the other people on the planet, including one slightly mutated 'mariner' on a tri-maran, and a young girl with a mysterious tatoo on her back, that together may lead the way to a paradise-like 'dry land' The story is not too far off from being a parable of our own times...with the threat of global warming...we seem, as a population, to be more intent on better mobile phones than on concern about what the planet will look like in another couple hundred years, how we could possibly function without oil....or why the Pine Island Glacier in Antarctica is important.... WE are the 'Smokers' in this video. It's a much criticized video...that should have been interpreted as a call to 'wake up'.
The version that I bought was the extended version, that was also cleaned up a bit....no cuss words and some graphic death scenes were deleted. Entertaining in spite of that....and it makes me want to go out and buy a tri-maran..LOL

Ca faisait longtemps que je le cherchais. J'aimais beaucoup ce film quand j'étais petit. Bien content d'avoir trouvé même si ce n'est pas la version longue.
