Proof Country Music Doesn't Have to Be Boring,
By
This review is from: Wayward Angel (Audio CD)
I had a great deal of fun watching Josh Gracin on American Idol. Mostly I loved watching Simon snark on country music day after day, how it was "mumsy daddsy" or "not international." I really wanted to send him a copy of a Kasey Chambers cds. Ah, but of course, she's "rock." (lol)It is sad that we have gotten to a place that as a musical culture we agree with Simon--country music is boring. Then we are left wondering what genre Kasey Chambers is, when she is quite simply and wonderfully country. From the rockabilly of "Guilty as Sin" to the bluegrass of "Follow You Home" this is the perfect example of all that country music can be at its best.

I disagree with the praises below. This third album isn't up to the first two records. Kasey seems to lack inspiration - the musics are flat, and her lyrics too biographical... What came with a unique freshness with "The Captain" (still her best album in my opinion) and still strong material with "Barricades & Brickwalls" isn't here anymore. I think Kasey just needs to regenerate her creative world, because she's too repetitive now. The "Wayward Angel" song, for example, is too close to "I Still Pray" musically. And most of the other ballads of the album too similar to the previous ones as well. Her voice is still special, and if some people can't stand it, I for one find it GREAT. Let's say "Wayward Angel" is a transitional album... At least Kasey keeps the things going on, and keeps chances to work new things out better. It isn't easy to be a popular artist... and I'm aware she has to defend her new material on stage now. Her band does still sound great (even better than ever) on the rocking stuff ("Stronger", "Like A River", "Guilty As Sin", "Saturated"), and Kasey offers an excellent, sweet and moving vocal performance on the "Paper Aeroplane" song - if only the musics were memorable enough...Sorry to be critical... I put my humble opinion with all due respect, and the warmest attention. All the best to Kasey and the band...

Wayward Angel,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wayward Angel (Audio CD)
I love this album! I feel the sound is more polished then her previous albums. Why is does have a more American sound to it, the simplicity of the lyrics makes it truly Australian. It is quite an emotional album and will connect with many people. The more I listen the more I like Wayward Angel.
