5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best dictionaries that I've found Feb. 24 2006
By P. Powell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is one of the best dictionaries that I've found. The thing I really like about this dictionary is the word derevations. Most of the popular dictionaries these days have little or no information on where the word originated and what its original meaning is. Nice work Webster's New World Dictionary. I've been a fan for years. Keep up the good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Dictionary for Word Roots June 8 2013
By P. M. MUROYAMA - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought a bunch of this dictionary because, whenever I felt it appropriate, I wanted to give it to my friends as a gift. It's concise, but the clearly defined word roots are what I always look up. Whether it is Latin, old English, French, German or Greek, the word roots this dictionary points out will deepen understanding of the origin and true meaning of each word. I have never found such an useful dictionary in my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic dictionary for teachers, students and writers. Dec 19 2012
By Joseph J. Truncale - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
In our modern age with everyone now using computers with spell check many think you no longer need a dictionary. I do a lot of writing and still use this dictionary all the time. In fact, it sits on my desk where I can grab it quickly to look up a word, definition, pronunciation or even the etymology of a word. There are more 60,000 entries explaining business, computer, scientific terms, as well as slang expressions and other word related material.

I love words and I often look up unusual words in this dictionary. It will give you a clear and concise definition of any word you are looking up. This great reference source also includes abbreviations and symbols that are used in this dictionary. It also has a pronunciation key at the end of the book.

In conclusion, whether you are a teacher, student, writer, or just someone who is fascinated with words, this very reasonably priced dictionary is one you will constantly use for your pleasure and research.

My husband's family didn't have dictionary newer than the 1970s. This became quite a frustration, and so I sent them this dictionary. The games are much smoother now (and I have better scores!). ;)
