In the Jet City, they find work at a hotel, where they tangle with a no-nonsense manager (Mad Men's Patrick Fischler) and a sadistic chef (Fargo's Peter Stormare). Soon, Nancy soon adds "herbal relaxation therapy" to the maid service she provides (Linda Hamilton plays her supplier), Silas (Hunter Parrish) gives college life a try, and babysitter Shane (Alexander Gould) falls in with a trio of soccer moms. (The show re-creates Washington in California.) After Esteban's men kidnap Doug (Kevin Nealon), they head towards the Midwest, where Nancy has a fling with a hunky bartender (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) on her way to visit a figure from her past (Richard Dreyfuss). In Michigan, Silas uncovers a family secret and one fugitive stops running.
If the year gets off to a bumpy start, Weeds finds its footing once the cast leaves Ren Mar (except for Elizabeth Perkins's Celia, who doesn't show up at all). As ever, Parker holds the scenario together by finding the likability in a character who often does unlikable things. Extras include a gag reel, three featurettes (including one in which Kirk and Nealon interview each other), and eight commentaries with cast and crew, plus guest stars Hemky Madera (Ignacio) and Enrique Castillo (Cesar), director Tate Donovan, and creator Jenji Kohan, who describes season six as "a sort of road movie." --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Gypsies, Tramps and Weeds,

This review is from: Weeds: The Complete Sixth Season (DVD)
**NOTE - This review contains minor spoilers **After three seasons in Agrestic, and two seasons spent in Mexico, Nancy Botwin and her brood pull up roots once again as Season 6 becomes one big road trip for the family, now on the lam because of Shane's murderous tendencies, which became apparent in the Season 5 finale. When their attempt to cross the border to Canada is foiled, the gang first settles in Seattle, shacking up in a cheap motel after having gained employment at a nearby hotel by crossing a picket line and replacing striking hospitality workers. Nancy isn't scrubbing toilets for long until she finds a way to start dealing to the hotel guests in search of weed. Linda Hamilton makes an amusing appearance as a no-nonsense lesbian dealer, and nails the delivery of every line she has. Andy, Doug and Silus practice trailer-park evangelism when the gang has a stop-over in Montana. Dale Dickey makes a small but terrific appearance as does Mark-Paul Gosselaar (he has a bare-buns scene having hate-sex with Nancy). Celia disappears this season, and as much as I love Elizabeth Perkins, the plots and guest characters make up for her absence--I didn't miss her near as much as I thought I would. The cliffhanger season-finale is something this series has almost always done to perfection (save for the burning of Agrestic in Season 3--it just wasn't gripping or suspenseful enough for me) and Season 6 does not disappoint. Like the cover art says "Weeds is still smokin'" and I whole-heartedly agree. Everything that made me fall in love with this series is still here: the jet-black humour, addictive and quirky storylines, and solid performances from the entire cast. Highly recommended.

Not as good as past seasons,
This review is from: Weeds: The Complete Sixth Season (DVD)
Nancy really takes a turn for the worse in this season. Even though she has always been less than a stellar mom, in season 6, she really shows us a level of depravity not previously seen. Shane is nuts. No other way to say it, and it was brilliantly played by Alexander Gould. He is so wonderful in this character. Silas just breaks your heart. He wants to better his life, but is stuck in Nancy's soul-sucking void. Andy is great yet again, but almost borders on the ridiculous. Celia, Dean, and Isabelle were sorely missed this season. It really isn't the same without them. I'm hoping that Season 7 will bring everyone back together and end it all with a bang - with the best season ever. Here's hoping.
