Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

Wegman's fans will recognize Man Ray, Chundo, Chip and his many other weimaraners in this treasury edition, Wegmanology. The volume incorporates previously published work alongside new photographs to convey basic concepts. Three canines in butcher, baker and candlestick-maker garb "rub-a-dub-dub" in a tub in the "Nursery Rhymes" section; Fay Ray gets an X-ray to demonstrate the letter "X" in the "Dog Alphabet." The pooches also pose for counting, shapes and careers.

From School Library Journal

Gr 2 Up-Wegman's weimaraners are back, this time in a treasury that draws heavily from previous works. "Who's Who?" and "Nursery Rhymes" show the pooches in job-appropriate and character attire from an astronaut to a pilot and from Little Jumping Joan to the Queen of Hearts; in "How Many?" and "Dog Alphabet," they both form and illustrate the numbers 1 to 10 and letters of the alphabet. The versatile canines also cover the basic shapes before the book ends on a confusing note with an "Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral?" section, in which the hounds are dressed up and decorated without commentary. Some of the layouts and photographs are new, but this volume remains vintage Wegman-artistic layouts with many full-color, full-page photographs of the famous dogs often sporting human clothing, arms, and legs. This fares poorly as a concept book; the depiction of the letters, numbers, and shapes as well as the examples to represent them are often a stretch of the imagination. Adult aficionados are the real audience here.
