Once you understand why -- which George explains in much science-backed but easy to understand detail in Weight Loss Success -- it makes total sense. The basic concept is "nutrient-density". Nutrient-dense foods are those that deliver the richest concentration of the nutrients we need for a robust metabolism for the least amount of calories. If the foods you eat are nutrient-dense, you can enjoy plenty of them and will still effortlessly lose excess weight (and feel and look terrific). The only potential roadblocks here are figuring out which are the most nutrient-dense foods and finding ways to prepare them that make you actually want to eat them because they taste really good. Oh, and you also want to be able to do this in a really short amount of time -- comparable to waiting for that stuff in the box to heat up in the microwave.
Happily for us, George has done all this work in Weight Loss Success. He's shared with us the letters of weight loss success he has received from real people to inspire us (and believe me, they will! if these folks can do it, so can the rest of us!), he's explained why a nutrient-dense way of eating makes unwanted fat vanish while maintaining muscle and energy and promoting overall health, and he's laid out an entire month of great recipes -- these are very quick, easy, inexpensive and so delicious. These recipes are going to be your family's favorites long after those extra pounds of fat are history.
You could probably figure out a decent weight loss plan for yourself using the information George has now, for more than 10 years, freely provided for all of us on The World's Healthiest Foods. But you really should just buy the book. You'll know all your meals are giving you perfectly balanced nutrition. George has done all the work for you, so losing weight is going to be not just stress-free, but fun. You're going to want a copy of this book in your kitchen, both for the recipes and the inspiration it provides. And all--not just a portion-- of the money you spend buying the book will be used to keep the World's Healthiest Foods going for all of us. After a few weeks of eating the world's healthiest food, it strikes me that it's just so obvious: eat the food that has the most nutritional value per calorie. Duh, right? My way of tricking myself into eating it at first was to say, "I can have all the processed, high-sugar food I want AFTER I'm finished with my allotment of nutrient-dense food." Well, of course, after the nutrient-dense food, I simply wasn't hungry for the other stuff. And now, three weeks in, the food I used to eat is too sweet, too dense, too greasy for my taste.
This is a great introduction to using the world's healthiest food to lose weight. I'd recommend supplementing it with the author's (free) website after you've tried it for a few weeks.
For years I have subscribed to George's weekly newsletter and daily recipes, so when I saw that he had published a book specifically targeted at weight loss, I had to check it out. It has been the best thing for me. At first it's a lot of work: making grocery lists, prepping all the food and then cooking it. It was challenging, but after a few days, I got the hang of it. It's been nearly 3 weeks since I've been on this "diet" and I've already lost 5 pounds. I have more energy. I finally feel clear-headed and able to take on tasks that used to overwhelm me just at the thought of them. I also added lunchtime walks while at work. Some days I walk 3 miles within the hour and I feel great. I can't always walk during work, so when I can't, I make sure to get in some other type of physical activity to make up for it. I'm certain that I would have lost even more weight by now if I had stepped up my exercise routine.
The book has quite a few recipes, but many more on his website ([...]). He has created a new way of cooking vegetables so that they retain their vital nutrients as well as make them taste great! There is tons of information about inflammation, diabetes, and other health issues related to obesity and poor diets that will inform even the most health-aware person. (George cites all the sources of his information, which is key). I've already sent a copy to my father who was just diagnosed with diabetes as well as to other friends who have various health issues. Again, I can't recommend this book enough. It's time to change your life. It's only too late when you're dead.
