This is a good hard drive. Silent, great looking case and at good price. But i think it's too slow at writing. I use it with my 'Network Media Tank' for storing movie files. I transfert files around 6 Go regulary and it's a longer task than it should be. But other than, that i am very pleased with everything else! The best choice for a reliable external hard drive in my view.

This disk comes at a cheaper $/Gb ratio than DVD's, and transfers are of course much faster.
Subtle and quiet, it can be used advantageously with time machine on a Mac.
I definitely recommend buying it for domestic usage.

Having had my Samsung Story 1.5TB for around 2 years and finally getting my NSLU2 Unslung, I bought this to be the second and backup drive in my wireless file-sharing solution. Compared to the Story this drive is a quiet mouse. I never hear it spinning up or down, no clicks of access, just bumbles along working just fine. I've not run any performance tests but it's being accessed mostly wirelessly so that'll be the bottleneck and don't care much beyond. The Story has since been giving I/O errors so will be binned soon and replaced with another drive. If it wasn't for the risk of having two identical drives, I'd buy another one.
One point to note, which could be a pro and con, is that the device has no activity light on the front. For me having the drive permanently connected under the tv with my Slug it's nice as it's not constantly blinking at me (unlike the damn Story's underlight like something from 2 Fast 2 Furious) but or others this could be an issue.
On the whole, recommended.

No noise, hardly any heat. Haven't had any issues with corrupted sectors.
