It's been mentioned and I personally thought some people didn't know how to set it up, that the drive falls asleep and it actually does. There is no option to change this as it manages its sleep mode independently from OS option for sleep priority. WD offers no solution to change this, no software, no firmware. I don't know about coupling it with Mac but I'm using Win7-64bit on a powerful workstation and hooked it up through esata to get the best performance. Disappointing to say the least. it created all kinds of problems and I had to reformat a couple of times and lost some material as it got corrupted due to latency when it fell asleep. I'm in the process of returning the drive and so I'm letting you know I'm done with this product. Hope some of you are happy with it and that it serves your purpose but it's not going to be for me. I do video, post-production, photography, illustration, and will be looking for a better more solid solution for my priceless work.

Delivered quickly, good packaging, all cables required (FireWire 800 & USB) came with, extra long power cord which helps, unpacked and setup in 5 minutes. Good looking unit, wished it was solid aluminum buts its only painted plastic. It is quite fast and copied multiple gigs worth of data in only a minute or so with FireWire which is a lot faster then my other USB drive. I was looking for a dual drive raid external setup which I found here. I have over 35,000 images raw format as well as 600 gig worth of 1080p video so I need some speed when editing and viewing. Am happy with my purchase and would recommend to anyone on a budget of less then $250.

The unit is factory set for Mac's and it takes a bit of work to modify it for pc's.
My first unit failed within a couple of months. Fortunately, I was able to retrieve data in it. It was returned for a replacement and I had to go through the tedious process to set it up for again pc. It seems to work ok for now, but I fear that it will fail on me again.
it disappears from the pc once in a while, and I have to reset it (pull both power & USB cables and then re-insert).
I bought it for the RAID feature, but for all the trouble I have gone through, I might have fared better getting two 1 Tb external hard-drives (possibly for less)..

Very good but one wire was missing
I received my object very quickly but i was desapointed because one wire was missing. It's not an error of the My Book Studio II but an error of amazon. So i bought it for 50 $.
