It's compact, looks nice, great price, relatively quick (not amazing but better than probs 90% of the product out there) and not too loud. Size of my palm and powered by the USB makes it portable, as it's supposed to be. Perfect for PC users I assume, for me as a Mac user it's not bad, but unfortunately Macs only like to let you install software etc to an external drive IF it's formatted to be a mac hard drive, and this one requires a little work to be formatted. Some hard drives can be bought already formatted and this isn't one of them. On the bright side, if all you want to do is shove a bunch of movies/songs/pictures etc into it, it's all ready to go!

My expectations of this drive were that it would store large quantities of data and allow me to retrieve it with facility.

The drive was disappointingly slow but came with software that WD says will allow me to enjoy speedier access.

Ahhhh, but to be able to install the special Western Digital speedup software that came installed on the drive I must to let Western Digital access the drive and the rest of my computer data whenever they want. They promise not to look at anything personal. Sure I believe them.

I also have to agree to let any Third Party chosen by WD look at my drive and my computer data. Now obviously WD are not responsible for what Third Parties (referred to as "TP" in my house) do when they get inside my machine so if there is a privacy violation I guess it is just "so sad to be me".

Here is a better idea: WD just sells me a drive that works as well as it can without the extortion. I wiped their drive, reformatted everything on it out of existence and now have a slow drive.

This was not what I expected when I bought the drive.

Like the title says, drive seems fine, but beware of the software it will mess up your system and mind and make things worse if you install all of it, and it does non-stop updates which help to corrupt the older and newer files and make your system more unstable. Most of the software is useless to me, I don't need to make a double copy of every file for backup because if the drive fails, you'll lose it all anyway, so I don't get that feature, and I don't need to know if the drive is locked or not, or the temp of it or its status, if you are good with computers the temp should be fine and the drive stable. I just wanted the security feature, which you have to be careful with, my PC hangs at startup when I set the security on then is fine after. The people who make the drive and the sofware are not the same people. Like I said the drive itself works great, actually isn't that much faster than my old USB 2.0 Iomega drive, it was superfast too, the USB 3.0 is a bit faster but I don't notice a big difference, how fast can you really click a folder or open a movie?? But yea, nice, small and sleek drive with lots of space, but again be careful with the software it sucks.
