Great little product. Watch Netflix, play youtube videos, pics and files off computer via wireless network. Setup was easy and has several different ways to plug in to your system so will work on just about any setup no matter what you have. Shipment arrived in about a week after ordering so was pleased with that as well. Would highly recommend this product.

Have originally purchased the unit as a local media player using an external portable USB as storage. Works great, no issues with any video formats you throw at it, including flash. So far so good. Where does it fall apart ? When you try to scale to a home VOD solution, adding your own media hub with wireless streaming. It's easy these days to end up with personal media libraries in the TB range and soon you will find yourself with a full portable USB drive and wanting more, supplying the house with the capability to share videos, music, pictures etc. So next natural step was to add a WD personal 'cloud', a 3TB WD NAS drive in this case. The idea of a cloud is that you don't need to know where your data is stored, but it is available everywhere. Now, clouds block sunshine, and can rain. A lot in this case, making you well aware of where the could is. What does this mean? 1) it is not truly NAS. While the drive is accessed via ethernet, you cannot put it anywhere in the network, it needs to be hooked up to the router with the actual connection to the Internet. Cloud, I don't think so. 2) Wireless access. The player is very flexible in allowing access to a shared drive (Microsoft networking, little luck if you run Macs exclusively) or a media server. The network share is a checkmark item *we can do it*, but buffering of the unit is very poor and even a full set of bars doesn't guarantee smooth sailing. The only way to operate on a network is via media server, which manages proper buffering and streaming for each session. The 'NAS' drive comes with (an old version) of a Twonky Media server, and it should really be spelled t(oo)-wonky, that's what it is. Media library management is somewhat unreliable, a good number of MP4s are recognized and cataloged as music, real-time update of the media database creates gaps, not picking up all incremental additions to the drive. You find yourself frequently in a situation not finding the video you just uploaded and the only workaround is to have the server rebuild its media database. Depending on the amount of content, this may require you to look for alternate entertainment for the evening. If you are constantly adding content, e.g. daily podcasts, be aware of the bottleneck connection, copying files can take forever and again you are best advised to connect the uploading machine via cable to the router with the NAS drive. During uploading you should not expect to be able to watch content without noticeable slowness or interruptions. Best to establish a batch upload schedule, including media database rebuild, and a user outage during that time. Always wanted to run an IT shop like in your office? Here's your chance, and you really have to have a serious need for a solution like this. Lastly, make sure to have sufficient signal strength throughout the house, add a repeater if needed, in most cases you will have to, rule of thumb is one per floor. 4) Mobile device access works quite nice, but with Apple devices you will have to convert all flv content to mp4. 5) Support. It is what it is, the units are firmware upgradeable, and the NAS drive actually runs Linux, but don't expect major updates, especially on the Cloud side, numerous forums suggest the media service will not be upgraded for quite some time, if at all, even if bugs are present. So, go nuts if you must, but be prepared to sink some significant time into this to make it work, or wait a bit longer until this technology matures.
