Reformatted to HFS+ (Mac OS) transferred 700 GB of data at around ~27 MB per second via USB 2.0.

Got it 2 weeks ago (JUNE 11/2012) but it's pretty new so it's a bit hard to review things like reliability. However, so far it is working perfectly (got it to replace a WD My Book 2TB that developed bad sectors in a month). No connection issues either (this seem to be a popular problem with the passport drives) I find that connectors in general, tend to degrade if there is too much "tension" at the ports. A good way to minimize this is by plugging the USB end first into the computer's port and then reposition the passport as needed so that the cord fits directly to it without any upwards/sideways tension.

Will continue to monitor the drive and report back updates.

I hope it doesn't melt - after all, it is an insanely high capacity drive. Either way, it's good to keep backups!

(July 10/2012) Exactly a month now and still working good. The drive is running very cool despite being used for long periods of time. Still keeping regular backups of the drive however... S.M.A.R.T. reports "Good". Only concern is that load/unload cycles like many other WD laptop drives are increasing quite fast.

(june 5/2013) Still working like a champ. Got USB 3.0 now so getting about 80-110 MB/s on the read, a little slower on the write

(june1/2014) 2 years in and still 100%. One little thing though.. if your USB 3.0 port doesn't provide enough power, transfer speeds will degrade a bit.

Tiny, yet large capacity, quiet, sturdy, so far so good, no data corruption. I guess I will have to get another one.

I have had this drive for quite a while. I have not had any problems. If you are looking for some portable storage then this is definitely for you. If you are looking for storage expansion, and are planning to get multiple of these I would suggest you take a looking into getting yourself a NAS unit.

Works great. The only is that quite it often the computer will refuse to eject it until you either unplug it without safely disconnecting or turning the computer off. It's a bit of a nuisance, but otherwise, great device.

Prior to this WD 2, I also purchased the WD 1TB and was quite pleased with the size and storage capacity of the passports. If this WD passport is as trouble free as my older one I will have no complaints.

These are so handy, and so high capacity, that for the current price they can't be beat! I use them for movies, music, all files backup including home photo albums, etc. When we go away I diligently hide them or leave them somewhere else so that if computers are stolen, the important stuff is not! Can hook one to your big-screen tv, streaming wifi box or router (if it has a usb slot). My own in-home cloud storage! ;)

I paired this with a new MacBook Air for a month-long trip last fall, worked flawlessly even while crossing the Atlantic.

I purchased this drive for the portability and the capacity. Extremely happy with it. I have knocked it about a bit on the table and it is able to take minor shocks.

However, one of the rubber feet came off in transport and the next time I had it on the laptop, it slipped off and hit the ground on it's edge. This is the first time I've had a WD drive fall and even after attempts from OnTrack your data is toast!

So, if you get this drive, I recommend some redundant backup via cloud storage, or a WD Live network drive. I now use double redundant backup (cloud storage and WD Live network drive) in conjunction with this external hard drive; as the external Hard drive is quicker to access files in a working environment, and the Live network drive is easier/quicker to backup and restore from than the cloud. The cloud is a tertiary and expensive but extremely secure backup that should all hardware fail, my data will stay safe.
