5.0 out of 5 stars A Concise Answer To A Burning Question, Feb 10 2012
By Fan of Time-Life Books "Chris" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: What Killed the Dinosaurs? (Library Binding)
The cause of the mass extinction of the dinosaurs is one of the most intriguing questions in the scientific community. In What Killed the Dinosaurs? we are introduced to the theory that a large object from space hit the earth and caused the climate to cool to the point that living things died out. A layer of iridium (a material common in objects from outer space) is in rocks that are about 65 million years old. Also, scientists have found signs of an enormous crater beneath the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The book further states that objects from space may hit the Earth on a regular basis (every 26 million years or so) and cause different kinds of life-forms to die out. This book was originally written by Isaac Asimov and later updated and revised by Richard Hantula. While the comet/meteor impact theory may not completely explain the demise of the dinosaurs, this book makes a fairly convincing case supporting this theory.
