"This delightful kick-off to the series demonstrates Mlynowski's prowess at writing for middle-graders." —Publisher Weekly

"Abby's conversational narration is witty and charming, and Jonah's one-liners are snappy and clever. A light, fun adventure." —School Library Journal

"There's lots of hilarious artistic license here (three of the seven dwarfs are women; one has pink hair), along with unexpected plot twists and plenty of girl power. Tween girls... will find this title is just right." —Booklist

From the Author

A note from Sarah Mlynowski:

As a kid, I had two favorite kinds of bedtime stories. The first were about a little girl named Sarah who lived in Montreal, just like I did, but magic stuff happened to her, like she had a magic umbrella and could fly, or a magic fork that could turn vegetables into chocolate. The second were fractured fairy tales. Since I was not a fan of vegetables, when my mom told me the story of "The Princess and the Pea", the queen put Smarties under the girl's mattress to see if she was a true princess. When I became a writer I wondered: What if I combined the two? What if a regular girl magically fell into a fairy tale and fractured it? And that's how I got the idea for my new series, Whatever After.

4.0 out of 5 stars Humor and Heart Jun 10 2012
By K. M. Martin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Abby is a girl after my own heart. She is ten, very concerned with fairness, wants to be a judge when she grows up, is a bossy older sister, and prefers her adventures in story books. Also, she loves exclamation points! But when she and her adventurous younger brother Jonah get sucked into a magic mirror in the basement of her old house she has to find a way to save Snow White from her evil stepmother and find her way home too.

Abby wants her stories unchangeable. When Jonah stops Snow from eating the poisoned apple, the story is changed. Abby and Jonah hatch a variety of schemes to make the story follow the pattern they both know but nothing works. The kids have lots of adventures as they travel from the dwarves' cottage to Snow White's castle. Along the way Abby does things she never thought she would be brave enough to do and learns that sometimes change is good.

The story is filled with humor and heart. I recommend it to middle grade fantasy lovers.

2.0 out of 5 stars The author needs a grammar lesson. Feb 4 2013
By Mary O'Flaherty - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I previewed this book for my eight-year-old by getting the Kindle sample. It was the daily deal and had good reviews so, I was excited! In this world of texting, where everything is abbreviated or translated into an acronym, children have a tough enough time learning grammar. This story might be cute and engaging. I wouldn't really know because, as I read it, I couldn't help but notice (and focus on) the atrocious grammar utilized by the author. The description of the game of Tag (yes, it should be capitalized) was practically unreadable. She has apparently never learned how to use quotation marks, the difference between "me" and "I", or proper capitalization. Obviously, there are times when an author uses poor grammar on purpose, as part of telling the story. This is not one of those cases. Our children deserve better than this slop. For my children, I will stick with books in which the author and editor respect and adhere to basic grammar rules. It's really not that hard to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious story! Feb 28 2013
By Joseph Lee - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed this book very much actually! I sneaked this from my daughter's room and loved it! It was a mix of humor, teamwork, and fantasy which made the book an awesome experience to read it.

About The Book: Abby and Jonah, two siblings, move to Smithville. Then one night, they explore their basement and get sucked into an old mirror. As they arrive in Snow White's story, Jonah "saves" her from getting poisoned in the apple part. But, as Abby thinks about it...Snow White won't get her happily ever after! Will Abby and Jonah find a way to save the story? Or does Snow live UNhappily ever after?
