Matt Mays - When the Angels Make Contact
i thought i'd give this album a play today, i'd forgotten how good it was. It's a lot more mellow then el torpedo music but still excellent stuff. well, i admit the last 2 songs are weak. still worth purchasing though. this music is a little deeper in substance. Excellent lyrics backed by mays vocals and guitar. check it out. good canadian music

Just got it, you should too! Fantastic assortment of music. Looks like Matt has gone on a journey that includes many styles, something for everyone. My favorite so far is The Past, and 850 Commando is a close second. Matt has a great voice, fantastic musicianship and a lively imagination. Great job!!

Excellent,

I really enjoy this album, although it may not be what most Matt Mays fans are looking for, it is a wonderful experimental album. Little bit of everything on this album, which is nice. I enjoy a diverse sound, but also like the sort of the laid back feel of this album, so to speak. Spoonful of Sugar and 850 Commando are probably my two favorite tracks on the album, and both are excellent tracks and display his range as an artist imnsho.

Nothing like his first two CDs,

Matt, for some reason, decided to experiment on this CD.
Even the ones that are in his traditional alt-country roots rock style aren't memorable in the least. Its as if he had some B-Sides left and then filled in the rest of the CD with minute and a half wastes along with the aforementioned experiments. Hardly a keeper in the whole set. Rapping on the title track? Puhleeze. Pick up his first two, esp Matt Mays + El Torpedo. That is the best of all of his. I'd rate Terminal Romance 2nd.

This is a great release from Matt Mays as none of the songs sound the same, and the creativity is especially prevalent. Although all the songs are very different, they also have a way of flowing into one another while listening to the album. Definitely check it out if you're already a Matt Mays and El Torpedo fan as well as Joel Plaskett/Emergency and Matthew Good/Band.
Favourite songs on this album are: "Spoonful of Sugar," "Rough N' Tumble Come Down," and "Mornin' Sun." Great Canadian rock. |
