Book Description

Anger is the most important psychological problem confronting the world today. This book, devoid of "psycho-babble," addresses the real world needs of individuals struggling to manage their anger. Once the origins of anger are explained, readers are given tools to help them choose an emotion, other than anger, that helps them be more assertive, helps them solve life's problems, and results in their being better parents and experiencing richer, more satisfying relationships. Exercises throughout the book are designed to help readers apply principles to their everyday experiences with anger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and Effective!, Oct 1 2001

This review is from: When Chicken Soup Isn't Enough: Managing Your Anger in an Increasingly Angry World (Paperback)
If you are interested in reading this review, then I highly recommend you read this book by Dr.Brad Barris. I did and it has had a profound effect on my life!I believe that now more than ever we as individuals and as a society desperately need to have a grasp on understanding where our anger comes from in an 'increasingly angry world'. In his book, Dr. Brad Barris enlightens the reader in regard to better understanding anger, and how to manage it. He presents the tools and then teaches one how to use them to acquire the skills necessary to manage this basic human emotion. As Dr. Barris speaks to health professionals, parents, teens, husbands, wives, and others through this straightforward, practical, and reader-friendly book, we can learn a great deal about ourselves and understand the role anger plays within our relationships, our careers, and in our parenting roles. I feel that we can begin to see that it is actually possible to make our world a less angry place in which to live and in which to raise our children. There are only a few books that I keep close by and also recommend highly to others because of the nuggets of truth and the life lessons contained in them. This is one of them!

3.0 out of 5 stars WHEN CHICKEN SOUP IS NOT ENOUGH, Dec 26 2010

This review is from: When Chicken Soup Isn't Enough: Managing Your Anger in an Increasingly Angry World (Paperback)
The thinking and the advice in WHEN CHICKEN SOUP IS NOT ENOUGH are both
quite good and very useful for someone trying to control and then eliminate
anger from his life. But the book is full of typos and some grammatical
errors as well, so it seems the author Bradley Barris could have used an editor.
But I would nevertheless recommend the book. Sherrie Murphy, NYC

This review is from: When Chicken Soup Isn't Enough: Managing Your Anger in an Increasingly Angry World (Paperback)
I wish I'd discovered this book years ago! It gets away from all the excuses about anger and how to manage it. Instead of just using willpower it gives real strategies to change the way we look at anger. Anger is nothing more than wanting things to go our way. When in reality we can't control anything or anyone, but ourselves. Instead of getting angry get irritated or annoyed because that keeps the channels of communication open. It also helps us to physically stay calmer which is healthier for everyone.
The book has short exercises to do and is an easy straightforward read. I highly recommend it!
