Book Description

Aug 17 2005

Have you ever been involved in church and not felt cared for? Have you been frustrated by the apparent lack of love and concern within the church community? Come on an investigative journey into the world of Christian care. Beth Murray takes an indepth look at the crisis of care ministries in the church. She defines care, looks into reclaiming "Christian hospitality," examines issues of cultural relevance and pulls out four levels of care as defined in scripture. Building on these four levels, Murray presents ways to build care, love, and concern into the Christian community. This is a transformational work regarding the need to resurrect and revamp how we do "care" in the church. Murray combines humour, inspiration, Biblical scholarship, psychological principles and a caring lens to address the present crises related to care in the North American church. The book is engaging, challenging and provocative--hopefully it will prompt life change in how you view God, yourself, family, friends, strangers and the body of Christ--the Christian church.

A great book for churches and anyone involved in ministry and leadership. Challenging and thought provoking....this book would make a great manual for a care or compassion ministry in any church. The author shares her experiences and offers easy to read explanations on caring in the church. Biblically grounded and funny too! Questions at the end of each chapter make this a great small group study guide also. A must read!!

This book was wonderful....very insightful and thought provoking. With Beth's background of both theology and psychology, the book provides a new perspective on one of the most important responsibilities of the church. Beth actually puts into words what a great majority of people think but do not have the courage to express. Her sense of humor is sprinkled throughout bringing smiles to the reader in just the right spots. A definite A+!
