A decent read, but be careful.,
By
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
I have to admit this was a very difficult book for me to read. I grew up in a Mennonite household, and learned about Christianity from a very traditional point of view. This book is far from traditional. I have never heard of the author, Che Ahn, but in doing some research about him, I discovered he is very well known in the Charismatic movement. Once I knew that, the essence of When Heaven Comes Down made much more sense. Though the author writes in a very easy to read and understand manner, I still struggled with a lot of what what said, because it is very different than my traditional, evangelical thinking of God and grace. That said, this was a good book. I did enjoy the many personal stories the author wrote about, and especially enjoyed the final chapter, which reminds the reader to "give God all the glory"...for life, our family, for our salvation, for our work and ministry, for favor and blessing and for revivial. Ultimately, this book reminded me that all glory is to be given to Him for all things! I do recommend this book, however do caution you that if you are from a "traditional, evangelical" type denomination, there may be points in the book you may not theologically agree with.

Understand God's Glory,

This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
Using easy-to-understand language Ché Anh unpacks one of the most mysterious and hard-to-comprehend qualities of God - His glory. But not only does he help us get a head comprehension of God's glory. In When Heaven Comes Down he also guides us into how we can experience more of that glory in our lives. The book consists of fourteen chapters. In Chapter 1 Anh arrives at a working definition of God's glory: "God's glory is His manifest presence, by which He reveals His character of goodness and displays His power through signs and wonders" p. 28. The chapters that follow are a delve into the glory of God as we experience it in His presence, His nature and character, and His power. The book also has chapters that talk about what people need to do to stay and increase in the flow of God's glory. It concludes with a section on the purpose of God's glory, i.e. the transformation of us and our society to ultimately bring about the answer to Jesus' prayer, "Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." Anh's writing style is warm, encouraging and understandable. His teaching is peppered with scripture, stories from history, and illustrations from his own life. Lists and subheadings break up the text and make it easy to read. Ché Anh is a well known in Charismatic circles. Though he describes what some might think of as unusual and dramatic evidences of God's glory (angel sightings, miraculous healing, the mysterious appearances of gold or gems in connection with the ministry of some of his colleagues) he doesn't dwell on these or make them out to be signs that someone has arrived spiritually. Instead he stresses the need for discipline, personal holiness and a commitment to God that lasts for a lifetime. He also stays away from negativity. In the book he talks about unity among Christians as one of the evidences of God's glory. Nowhere does he sully that ideal by dwelling on controversy or criticizing other Christians of any stripe. When Heaven Comes Down is a book that will not only help you understand God better, but motivate you to seek Him more. It would be a worthwhile addition to the library of any twenty-first century disciple. (I received this book from the publisher for the purpose of writing a review.)

It will challenge you! It will change you!,
By PrayingMom "www.whatyoureadingnow.blogspot.com" - Published on Amazon.com
It will challenge you! It will change you! IF YOU ARE OPEN TO THE MESSAGE.Alot of Christian 'spiritual' books are written way over the common persons head. Many are preachy. Many are boring. When Heaven Comes Down by Che Ahn is NOT one of those! When I was given the opportunity by Bethany House to review this book I thought it would be just another 'spiritual' book. Another boring one that I wouldn't finish reading and that would collect dust on my bookshelf. NOT SO! I stayed up reading this book in one night. I was drawn in more by the real life true stories Che mentions and was reminded of experiences I personally have had with God. I was revived and challenged to daily allow God's grace and presence be with me. I am recommending this book to the staff at church. I will recommend this book to Christians, old and new! A must read for ALL Christians! -SuperMom [...] 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful

Are You Hungry To Experience More Of The Lord In Your Life?,
By Gretchen - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
This is a powerful book that ignited a new hunger for God in me - and continued a journey that I feel the LORD started me on within the past year, but that really began in my childhood. The knowledge that God is still moving in signs and wonders and is speaking and wants us to learn to hear Him loud and clear on a daily moment-by-moment basis. He wants us to have a relationship with him! And what does relationship involve? It involves getting to know each other (although He created me, so He already knows me even better than I know myself) - what does He like? What makes Him laugh? What delights His heart? What makes His heart break? How does HE see others around me that He also created? And trust me, it's often a lot different from how I see them!Che Ahn's book begins as a testimony of what the LORD is doing right now around the world - many things that my own family has witnessed also. As people are spending time getting closer to the LORD, praising and worshiping him and getting hungry for more of HIM - both corporately and separately, He is showing up. My own family has seen gold dust appear on people, tasted manna (wafer-like food from heaven) that appeared and they've seen angels. Che Ahn tells about things that he has witnessed and also shares the stories of others - people being raised from the dead, seeing angels, things appearing such as angel feathers (I asked my sister, since she has seen angels and she says that yes, many of them do have wings with feathers), flawless gems and gold dust, rain inside of buildings, etc. Before you think that I am getting excited just about the experiences - but trust me, how could an experience with God not be exciting? Please understand, I agree that the purpose of experiencing God's glory personally in our lives ultimately bring HIM glory, changes us for the better and MORE THAN ANYTHING is meant to help fulfill the Great Commission of letting the world know about him. Something that my Dad heard as a young Christian and that I heard recently was "be careful that you are not seeking experiences more than God." When my Dad first became a Christian about thirty-five years ago, he had some amazing experiences with the Holy Spirit. When he went to church and told people about it, they told him this. My question is: If I am seeking experiences more than God, why would He answer my prayer to experience more of Him? (and how could it be bad/wrong to experience more of God?). I don't think He would answer my prayer to reveal more of Himself - or anyone else's prayer either - if it wasn't a good thing. The LORD intends for the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead to be at work in our lives. As Che says, salvation is the beginning, but He does not intend for His mighty power at work in our lives to stop there! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

Healing and Grace,
By Dawn Ewing "Dawnafer" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: When Heaven Comes Down: Experiencing God's Glory in Your Life (Paperback)
When Heaven Comes Down is a wonderful evangelical tool. We look at what one woman goes through once she decided her faith in God's promises are written for her. On page 105 she decides to leave her hearing aid at home because she just knew God was healing her during that ministry time. Just as she's about to get up and leave in defeat God speaks to Che Ahn's heart and the word is given just as her ears pop open and hearing returns. How often do we leave right before God does something. Have you ever left and then wondered if you would have received if you'd stayed just a couple more minutes? God has called the authoress into a ministry of healing hearts with her heart, voice and pen. This book gives each reader an honest review of When Heaven Comes Daown- daily miracles that are from the supernatural grace of God.Each word can be embraced and is laced with the Lord's encouragement to his children. What a wonderful realistic look at today's missionary. |
