Prequel to Laurenston's shifters,
By
This review is from: When He Was Bad (Paperback)
I purchased this novel for the prequel to Laurenston's shifter series. The storyline overlaps with the novel "Go Fetch". This story involves Niles VanHoltz and his mate Irene, from courtship, Alphahood and marriage. The storyline ends just after Conal and Miki ("Go Fetch") discover they are pregnant. If you like the current shifter series by Shelly Laurenston, this book will not disappoint. It has a little background information on a few of the characters. This particular storyline overlaps with her earlier shifter series surrounding the Magnus Pack. The Magnus Pack of characters from "Pack Challenge" with Zach and Sara, "Go Fetch" with Conal and Miki and "Here Kitty Kitty" with Nikolai and Angelina should be a must read before starting Laurenston's shifter series of books. Although the author did not continue this particular series of characters, they are occasionally referred to throughout her current series of books. I recommend this book, if only for the background information. I enjoy Laurenston's series of books and her sense of humour. Keep up the good work.

Loving Laurensten's humour.,

This review is from: When He Was Bad (Paperback)
When He Was Bad is two short stories with romance mixed with humour. I purchased the book because I love Laurenston's sense of humour and characters and I was not disappointed. Irene is one of the strangest heroines of a romance novel I have ever encountered but she is downright amusing and makes me want to emulate her. Van is just the usual easy going wolf shifter until he is forced to claim Irene, a full human, and find out if all the stories he has been told about mating are true - he thinks they are a myth...good times. This book is part of her shifter series but it is not necessary to have read any of the other books to enjoy this one. Eden's story Wicked Ways was a good follow up with vampires and shifters. Neither story really goes beyond warm but they are fairly explicit so be warned.

This review is from: When He Was Bad (Paperback)
This is a compilation of two novellas, one by Shelly Laurenston and one by Cynthia Eden. Both are highly enjoyable, especially the one by Shelly Laurenston, who is a delight, the best writer in the genre, as far as I'm concerned. If I see a book with her name on the cover, I buy it immediately. The heroine of 'Miss Congeniality', by Laurenston, is a scientist, ice cold, totally wrapped up in her work and completely uninterested in the opposite sex, who finds herself pursued by a very sexy, wolf-in-his-other-form shifter who refuses to be rebuffed. Van Holtz's pursuit and gradual wearing down of Irene is hilarious and very hot. Laurenston's protagonists are always charming and wonderfully written: the heroines independent and intelligent; the heroes hot, sexy and completely enjoyable. Even the secondary characters are individual and fun. The sex is hot, but more than that, there is real love and caring here, which makes it romantic rather than just clinical. 'Wicked Ways' by Eden is about a were-panther protecting the woman he's falling in love with from a psychotic vampire. Again the sex is romantic, the characters likable and the story a pleasure to read. I've re-read this book more than once, enjoyed it every time, and recommend it highly to anyone who relishes real passion.
