Book Description

Oct 1 2008
In Book II, Tamras moved from her home into the lands beyond its border. In Book three, the stage widens further: she deals with the struggles of whole peoples. Caught up in intrigues that would once have been far above her, the heroine risks everything unless she can not only learn to swim in treacherous waters, but to master them. The heroine’s inner journey continues to match her outer one. She must confront the meaning not only of personal love, but the love that extends beyond oneself and those we hold dear. Catherine Wilson’s skill at tackling the big issues of love, meaning, and humanity is so deft that it all seemed, to me at least, to flow naturally from her narrative in a way I found technically quite breathtaking.…" --from a review by Charles Ferguson on the Goodreads website "Being the third and last volume in a series I enjoyed immensely, I knew that I could expect this last book to deliver a happy and satisfying ending. What I didn’t expect was the intricate and daring storyline of this last volume. It is bigger and broader than what has come before, and it is spectacular. … this time the story unfolds on to a whole new level. More characters, more intrigue, greater losses, wonderful reunions. … There’s no taking the easy road here—the story opened up into unimagined dimensions to tell a tale that really is that of a hero. "… When Women Were Warriors manages to blend mythic storytelling with characters who feel so real you could imagine stepping into the pages and having a conversation with them. A Hero’s Tale skilfully weaves the questions of love, faith and fairness into a dramatic story; not only of a relationship between the main characters, but of a quest so much bigger it takes the breath away. There is everything you could wish for here – power struggles, forces for good and evil, dramatic tests of faith, daring rescues, fatal rivalry, but it is managed with such a deft hand that in the end it is all one beautiful story. What else is there to say? This is not just lesbian fiction, but a story about being human. It’s not to be missed. --from a review by Kate Genet on the website, Kissed By Venus In Book III of the trilogy, Tamras must make her own hero’s journey. She ventures into the unknown and encounters a more formidable enemy than any she has ever faced. Character is destiny, and the destiny of Tamras and all her people will depend upon choices that come less from the skills she has been taught than from the person she has become, from her own heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars When Women Were Warriors, Books I, II and III Mar 27 2011

I truly enjoyed this novel. I can not add more to the previous gushing reviews. I was hooked with the entry Kindle 0.99cent price for Book I. The writing is smooth and relaxing, drawing the reader into a vested relationship with the main protagonists. This relationship is what will cause the fan of this story to dive in for the next two books. However, realise that this is not really a trilogy per se. If this were a trilogy, we might see Tamras as a apprentice/maiden in Book I, then a warrior/lover in Book II and finally, an Elder/leader in the final book, in the classic "maiden, woman, crone" style. In this well-planned marketing strategy, It is simply a great longish novel divvied into 3 book covers. Book I ends with a big "huh" at Chapter 27, Book II leads in with Chapter 28 and Book III with Chapter 63. So be aware that an e-book will cost about $21.00 and printed PAPERCOVER for all 3 will be $45-$50. This will not deter a determined fan of the characters, perhaps, but it might make pause for those dedicated to the printed word.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite of the series! May 1 2012
By Alathea Rogers - Published on Amazon.com

Book III was definitely my favorite out of all the books. I love the way she built Tamras into an awesome warrior. I love the plot and how the story is written. I love everything about this book. I just wished that the story could have kept going on and on. I was completely and totally drawn into the world of this book. I enjoyed the whole series and would recommend it, especially if you are interested in reading a good lesbian science fiction/fantasy novel. I will definitely be reading these book multiple times over because the story is just that great. Also, when you get to the end of the book, there is information on contacting the author. Do check out her website and blog. She seems like a really cool lady. I emailed her and she sent me some stuff. I hope she writes some more books, especially if she extends this series. That would make me really happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing trilogy! Feb 14 2011

When Women Were Warriors is a lovely and well told story that spans across three books. It's an epic tale of one young girl, fostered to the house of Lady Merin in the hopes of one day becoming a warrior. Tamras may be young and innocent, but she knows what she wants and is determined to walk the path that she feels is best and not the path others would force upon her.

The books not only follows along as Tamras finds her path in the warriors world, we also get to see her discover the depth and strength of her heart and spirit and discover where she fits in in the world. I really like that Catherine has built a world of strong women, yet hasn't fallen into the trap of making the men weak, of body or mind.

I downloaded the first book from Catherine's website and immediately started reading. It didn't take long before I was fully invested in Tamras and where her journey would take her. That was two days ago. When I finished reading it, I immediately purchased books two and three and jumped right in. Needless to say, nothing else got accomplished around here, I blame Catherine for writing such great books. (I should be blaming my own lack of self control and poor time management skills, but where's the fun in that!).

When I finished the third book last night, I didn't immediately write my thoughts down, instead heading to bed with the intention of allowing the story to pecolate through my mind. I should know by now to have a pen and paper next to the bed, as I thought of several amazing, witty, astonishingly insightful things to write. Alas, I awoke this morning and they've all fled my brain. All I can say is I highly recommend the books. Catherine is kind (smart) enough to offer the first book for only a 99 cent download, so you have nothing to loose by giving it a go. If you're anything like me, when you get to the end of it, you'll almost be tripping over yourself to get back online and purchase the next two.

Thanks Catherine for a great trilogy of books :)
