Where does Pillar go from here?,
By Jonathan Mercier (UG Jonathan) (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Where Do We Go from Here (Audio CD)
Honestly, after hearing an amazing record like Fireproof, I was left wondering what was next for Pillar... Fireproof was such a great CD that almost everyone doubted that Pillar could step it up and make a new record that would be as good as Fireproof........but then came June 15th, and the release of Where Do We Go From Here. After hearing the first song (Hypnotized), you know the new CD is gonna rock... and not rap-rock. It is clear Pillar have taken a much more melodic approach, and are clearly talented for it. Following the opening track comes Chris Lord-Alge's remixed, #1 single, "Bring Me Down", which is clearly better than the first mix that came out on the the Broken Down EP. Follows the punkish song "Holding On", which comes to show Pillar's ability to write songs in very diverse styles. Tracks 4 and 5 begin with slow verses which quickly turn to a heavy and rock solid chorus. Rewind, the midway track on the CD, is "the slow song of the record". It showcases Pillar's ability to write beautiful lyrics along with a great melody. Frontline follows and comes back with the rhythmic verses Pillar are known for (and maybe the slight rap in it as well?). I'd be willing to bet that Frontline is the next single off the record......... Follows this great song is Underneath It All, another great heavy tune with amazing guitar loops and great drumming. Dirty Little Secret, which adresses the issue of pornography in mankind, contains a fast guitar solo near the end of the song, which brings an element of diversity to the record. Staring Back, One Thing and Aftershock are the three last tracks of the record, but are clearly not the least. Heavy guitars, amazing drums and bass, and great singing come to close the record, after 45 minutes of pure rock. All in all, this record is one that you definetely want to have in your collection... It isnt surprising that, although on a very small record label, this CD has sold close to 19,000 records in its first week of release, which brings them to the low sixties on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. Amazing for a little indie rock band..... but I doubt it will remain "little" and "indie" from here.... Where does Pillar go from here? You'll see in the very near future!

The album is awesome!Hypnotized-10-An upbeat song with a good message. Great if you're in a rockstar moment. Bring me Down-10-Good message. Also good for a rockstar moment. Holding On-8-Good song. Might find yourself skipping over it sometimes. Let It Out-10-Awesome song! Great for rocking out. Simply-10-Amazing. Very deep. Good for a mellow mood, or if you're having a bad day. Scream along if it helps. Rewind-9-Also a great mellow or bad day song. Good if you've just went through a breakup. Frontline-10-Awesome song! This definitely a rockout song for ya if you're feeling hyped up. Underneath It all-8-OK. Probably will skip over it a lot. Dirty Little Secret-10-Also an awesome song! It's upbeat but has a serious message. Staring Back, One Thing, Aftershock-8-OK. Probably won't listen to these very much.

let me start out by saying that i thought this cd would be just okay.while i had liked pillar since the first time i heard them i could'nt stand the rap,it reminded me of p.o.d.with 9where do we go from here)these boys step it up and shed the rap, making everyone more happy, this has a better sound to it...her are some of my fav.1.a really smooth song, good vocals, smart riffs, slow drumbeat, sweet bassline. 2.the current single. 5.my fav. 12.i love the sound of this song. let me put it this way, this band is the best BAND that i have heard in a while.awsome drummer, bad to the bone guitar, and a bassist with a new style, the vocals are about as good as you can get in a band...keep it up pillar!!!
