Destiny has a funny way of showing its hand. Dragon Niall Talbot is on a mission - and having a firestorm is not one of his duties at the moment. Alas, fate has other plans and so Rox, a tattoo artist, is literally thrown into his arms. "Sparks fly" is an understatement...
Rox is an independent thinker and free spirit. She goes with the flow and if she can help someone along the way, then that only makes things better. She knows as a tattoo artist most people only look skin deep but she has learned to live with society's perceptions of her art. Rox's roommate Thorolf is the latest recipient of Rox's generosity and she has finally found him a job better than the one he has. Arriving at her apartment, Thorolf is packing his things and Rox is shocked and then almost hurt that he is moving on without her. She knows how special Thorolf is and his story of learning `things' just doesn't click with her. And so she sets out to find and meet Niall Talbot, who, Rox realizes in a matter of seconds, is special just like Thorolf only her body's reaction to Niall is something she has never experienced before. This gorgeous makes her confused, unsteady and literally see stars.
Niall and Rox have sparks flying through the air with each breath. Niall has been waiting and hoping for his firestorm for a long time and while he welcomes the thought of a mate and lover, he knows he has a job to do - a dangerous one. He tries to make Rox less important in his mind but when she is endangered his true feelings come to the surface.
*Sigh* I just love territorial and dominant dragons! Niall is beautiful to me - his loyalty to the Pyr is unquestionable. His desire for Rox, a woman unlike any he has ever met, is undeniable. Their love is unbreakable. From the heavens to the underground caverns and tunnels of New York City, Niall and Rox's firestorm burns brightly igniting passions wherever they go. Their fervor for each other left smoke in its wake...
WHISPER KISS by Deborah Cooke is now my unofficial official favorite! Rox's quirky characteristics and beauty and Niall's no nonsense outlook on life as well as his dedication just drew me into this wonderful but often dangerous world of the Pyr and I loved every single scene. Bursting with emotions, passion, and even a real fire or four, I count myself lucky not to have spontaneously combusted! Don't miss this sizzling addition to Deborah Cooke's DRAGONFIRE series - it is marvelous!

another good story in a very enjoyable series, Aug 6 2010

I really enjoy this series and I liked this one very well, better than some of the others. The plot made sense. There was thinking and growing on the part of both the main characters. The dialog is entertaining. The characters were well drawn. He is a very honorable guy but is a bit rigid although he tries hard not to be and she is a free thinker and a do gooder who hides behind her tough image. They are a good match.
The secondary characters were good as always. There were little bits in the POVs of other characters. I don't really like the baby who is self aware and is an old soul but I just suffer through that part.
The character of Thorolf is an entertaining and engaging one. It was nice to see him grow so that by the time he has his firestorm we'll really be rooting for him. Rafferty was in the book quite a bit too and it looks like the next one is his story. Finally, I'm happy to see it.
One of the things that didn't work so well for me is that the trauma in her past didn't ring quite true. There was this big deal about her having learned not to trust people and that loving someone hurt too much when you lost them. I think that when you eventually find out what's up with that, the reality doesn't really match the set up. I don't want to say more so that I don't spoil it for people who haven't read it but I think that different happenings in the past would have led in a stronger way to her current emotional situation.
All in all another good story in a very enjoyable series.

Whisper Kiss: A Dragonfire Novel by Deborah Cooke
Paranormal Romance- Aug. 3, 2010
4 stars
In Whisper Kiss, Deborah Cooke has written the 5th installment in her Dragon Fire series. This book does not disappoint as the fiery passion between a spunky human and stoic and noble dragon shifter fight for their lives and their love. This book although part of a series can easily stand alone.
Rox is a do gooder tattoo artist who has an obsession with dragons. Years ago she met T, a man without direction or purpose. And to her shock she discovered T could transform into a dragon! She immediately took him under her wing. Rox has always felt protective of T but when a new dragon shifter named Niall recruits him she is immediately suspicious. She discovers where Niall lives and plans to sneaks in and find out more about him. But unfortunately, Niall finds her and confronts her in the process of breaking in. And Niall is shocked to discover Rox is his destined mate! He doesn't need the distraction. But when danger forces Niall to transform and protect Rox she is instantly smitten. And what Rox wants, Rox eventually gets... But complications arise when the conflict between the shadow dragons (evil dragons who have gone rogue) attack. And among them is Niall's twin brother Phelan who wants Rox, too.
Whisper Kiss is a satisfying paranormal romance. Fans and new readers will be sure to enjoy this latest installment in the Dragonfire series. Rox easily accepts and is able to stand up to Niall and I felt they were a very strong match. I enjoyed and was entertained by their constant interplay especially Rox who is no one's fool. I admired her bravery as she fearlessly goes for what she wants. Niall feels the pull of the Firestorm (The attraction between a dragon and his destined mate.) to Rox but his brother's interest in Rox makes it difficult. He shares a deep past with his brother, whom he still loves. Niall is torn. How can he save Rox and not kill the brother that he used to know? This emotional conflict in addition to the evil shadow dragon Chen who has powers unlike the rest of the dragons makes for a thrilling and absorbing read.
This was an immersing and exiting read that fans of paranormal romance and dragons will adore.
