1.0 out of 5 stars Where's The Choir? June 11 2011
By Eddie Nguyen TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
[[ASIN:B003HSUI3Q Eric Whitacre: Choral Music]

Well folks this is an interesting product... Everything on labels & packaging leads even the sellers to believe that there is choral music on the disc. Not so! The disc is actually orchestral...not a voice to be heard. This problem will, no doubt, affect all discs produced. I have returned this disc & the seller has gratiously returned my money. I would recommend that no one purchase this disc until the manufacturer corrects this problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy! June 28 2010
By C. Briley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is the second disc that I have absolutely just wanted to jump with choral excitement for! What a great group of performers! Their radiant tone speaks of their attention to blend and precision of breath. While I am not a huge fan of the straight tone sound, this group executes it without any hint of trouble and definitely has no intonation issues. Eric Whitacre's music is already a majestic accomplishment--the intricate harmonies in themselves are just incredible. But more exciting is to have a group like this sing his music--with such concern for tone, clarity in blend, attention to the dynamics, precision in phrasing, and performance quality of perfection! This is not your typical choral music...but it is WONDERFUL! A MUST BUY!

5.0 out of 5 stars An easy recommend for fans of modern choral music July 10 2010
By Matthew Wilcox - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
If you're not already familiar with the choral music of Eric Whitacre, watch the video of his "Virtual Choir" performing "Lux aurumque". The fact that this video has already had over one million hits in only three and a half months should be an indication that Whitacre's music is loved by many. This is only the 3rd domestically available CD that I know of that concentrates solely on his choral music. Along with the inclusion of his most popular works, like "Sleep", "i thank you God for most this amazing day", and "Lux aurumque", the disc also includes rarely heard works, such as "little tree" and "Little Birds" (both for choir and piano), and the exciting "Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine" (for choir and percussion instruments). The Elora Festival Singers, under the direction of Noel Edison, sound wonderful, and the sound quality of the disc offers just the right amount of reverberation and space to help the pieces come across warmly. The price makes this CD a good first choice if you are purchasing Whitacre's music for the first time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! June 18 2010

What a beautiful recording! Eric Whitacre is one of my favorite composers, and this chorus is breathtaking. The complex harmonies sound crystalline, and the musicianship is first-rate. This disc is a fine performance of some of Eric Whitacre's best-loved compositions!

5.0 out of 5 stars Balm for the Soul Oct. 26 2011
By Grady Harp - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The choral music of Eric Whitacre is beautiful, that is a given. But it is much more than that. His marriage of poetry and music is sensitive, as sensitive as any current composer. When we are afforded the luxury of hearing a full recital of his music, the aspect of how he communicates with our spirits becomes even more apparent.

This recital as performed by the Elora Festival Singers of Canada conducted by Noel Edison is a superb one. The lyrics dictate the mood of each piece as they should, and the lighter works become immediately endearing. But for this listener it is the big works that make the deepest impact - Her Sacred Spirit Soars does indeed soar with lines of harmonic interest superimposed on each other until the work nearly explodes in beauty. The single excerpt from the 3 Songs of Faith (i thank you God for most this amazing day - ee cummings) weaves a sell that once heard cannot be forgotten.

In trying times such as we are living at present, this collection of choral works by Eric Whitacre offer as much solace as any music we could keep close by. He, and his music, are gifts. Grady Harp, October 11

5.0 out of 5 stars Eric Whitacre Sept. 26 2010
By V. Jackson - Published on Amazon.com

What can anyone say about the choral music of Eric Whitacre that hasn't already been said? To say that his compositions are beautiful is an understatement. This cd is full of Whitacre pieces that I can listen to over and over again. I especially adore This Marriage and Little Birds. The Elora Festival singers, under the direction of Noel Edison, perform each piece with incredible precision and and their tone is simply beautiful. Buy the cd - you won't be disappointed.
