--Amon

3.0 out of 5 stars the Before and After review Dec 21 2003

the soundtrack to Madonna's movie Who's That Girl, hit record stores in July 1987
BEFORE:
Madonna was the biggest star on the planet. Three smash albums in a row and 5 #1 singles. As her fans were buying concert tickets to her Who's That Girl tour, they were awaiting the soundtrack to her new movie.
AFTER:
Who's That Girl the movie was not a box office success, however it was a cute fun wasy to spend 95 minutes. The soundtrack faired better, as 2 of Madonna's 4 songs from the soundtrack were hits. Who's That Girl went to #1 and Causing A Commotion peaked at #2 for 3 weeks.
I have always loved the Who's That Girl era of Madonna. I've seen the movie countless times. The album is total hit and miss. We get three great songs (the two singles plus the UK single The Look Of Love) and one not-so-great song (Can't Stop). However, the low score comes from the other artists. The only non-Madonna cut I like is Michael Davidson's ultra-cheesy SAW produced "Turn It Up".
Unfortunately, neither of the hits off this album have been released on compilations, making this cd somewhat a rarity amongst Madonna fans (as many stores never stock this title).I only recommend it to Madonna diehards, and those who love 1987-era pop. Let's hope WTG and CAC will eventually make a box set or something, both are great "lost" Madonna classics.

5.0 out of 5 stars An above average movie soundtrack from Madonna March 15 2003
Format:Audio CD
Madonna's film career has never really taken off, despite being launched way back in 1985 with Desperately Seeking Susan. In 1987, she starred in the flop film Who's That Girl. The film showed strong promised, but basically flopped worldwide. The soundtrack to the film, however, was the bigger hit of the two and went on to sell 8 million copies worldwide, and includes some pretty big hits. Granted, the soundtrack isn't Madonna's best - I'm Breathless is - but this is a worthy album for any Madonna fan's collection. If you're a Madonna fan and were thinking of purchasing this record without hesitation, beware! The album has only nine songs on it - and only four of those are by Madonna herself. The others are by lesser-known acts such as Duncan Faure, Club Nouveau, Michael Davidson, Scritti Politti and Coati Mundi! Because of this - and because the record says "Madonna" at the top - I will only be reviewing the songs by Madonna...
Who's That Girl starts with the massive UK No.1 single of the same name, Who's That Girl (10/10). It topped the UK chart in July 1987 and was also a US No.1. The song has some fun lyrics and the bassline and beats are very traditional of Madonna's musical style at the time - very upbeat, poppy and fun. Causing A Commotion (10/10) is the next song. Released in September of 1987, the song peaked at No.4 in the UK and was a big hit with audiences at Madonna's "Who's That Girl?" World Tour in 1987. The song has the usual big beats and catchy, funky and melodic beats to groove around to. The Look Of Love (9/10) is another excellent mid-tempo ballad from Madonna, which peaked at No.9 in the UK in December 1987. The lyrics, "No where to run/No where to hide/From the look of love/From the eyes of mine," are not only catchy, but instantly recognisable.

I have the soundtrack and I love it alot! My favorite songs are "Who's That Girl, Causing a Commotion, Can't Stop & Best Thing Ever!" I just finished writing a review on the Movie which is also GREAT! Okay well people say this Madonna Soundtrack/Album is one of the most worst of all (along with Erotica) but I personly think it's her best! "Who's That Girl" Is a good song it always makes my sing to it! "Causing a Commotion" is an amazing song it has to be my favorite of all her songs! "Can't Stop" I still day to this day that this song should have been a single!! It's funny on the movie when Madonna is driving with the train and dancing to this song! In fact I'm dancing to it right now!(Even though she sings that song!) All three of these songs should have been on "The Immaculate Collection" Well last but not least "The Look Of Love" This song also should have been on Madonna's slow song hits "Something To Remember" but then again same problem IT WASN'T!! oh well! But I really recomend you but this and don't listen to those people who say "It's her worst album ever!" because it's not!! If anyone wants to chat to me about the movie my email is Erotica2000@madonnafan.com thanks!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting compilation May 12 2000

Even though i bought the album in 1989 I'm sure I never fully listened to the non-Madonna songs. Lately I did, and beside rediscovering the fabuluos Madonna songs I listened to the other tracks and they're not bad at all. If you love the movie you will sure like the soundtrack. 'Who's That Girl' is one of the most famous Madonnas, "Causing a Commotion" is really non-stop dance and it's great. What about the ballad "The Look of Love"?. Despite being released like a regular single in Europe (7", 12", Picture Disc), it's indeed a great great song (sends chills all over my body). It's a shame it wasn't included in "Something to Remember" or made popular, but I'm more happy like this, so it will be more personal to me. Virtually unknown to non-owner of this album is the fourth track, as it was never released as a single or a B-Side, but it's not bad. Personally I absulutely adore Michael Davidson's 'Turn It Up', and anyone who loves 80s plastic pop in the style of the PWL Label (like Kylie Minogue)will too. The rest are nice album fillers if you give them a chance. In my opinion, unknown songs tend to be binned because they don't live up to the expectations, and since you have no idea of what you're gonna get, it's even harder. But if you listen to them a couple of times you won't be annoied by them.
