Like DICK TRACY'S soundtrack, which is equally a complete 12 track Madonna CD, the songs were catchy and we all know VOGUE was and still is da JAM, but, anyways, 'Causing a commotion' and 'Who's that girl' are some of her best late 80's singles. She had some of her best songs in 87' and 86'. You go, girl!

the soundtrack to Madonna's movie Who's That Girl, hit record stores in July 1987
BEFORE:
Madonna was the biggest star on the planet. Three smash albums in a row and 5 #1 singles. As her fans were buying concert tickets to her Who's That Girl tour, they were awaiting the soundtrack to her new movie.
AFTER:
Who's That Girl the movie was not a box office success, however it was a cute fun wasy to spend 95 minutes. The soundtrack faired better, as 2 of Madonna's 4 songs from the soundtrack were hits. Who's That Girl went to #1 and Causing A Commotion peaked at #2 for 3 weeks.
I have always loved the Who's That Girl era of Madonna. I've seen the movie countless times. The album is total hit and miss. We get three great songs (the two singles plus the UK single The Look Of Love) and one not-so-great song (Can't Stop). However, the low score comes from the other artists. The only non-Madonna cut I like is Michael Davidson's ultra-cheesy SAW produced "Turn It Up".
Unfortunately, neither of the hits off this album have been released on compilations, making this cd somewhat a rarity amongst Madonna fans (as many stores never stock this title).I only recommend it to Madonna diehards, and those who love 1987-era pop. Let's hope WTG and CAC will eventually make a box set or something, both are great "lost" Madonna classics.

Well Its an adorable soundstrack. With catchy late 80's tunes even my 4 year old niece caught on to whos that girl, she hums it and tries to sing it the best she can. I think little kids today between ages 4 and 7, will like that song if radio brought it back, its kiddy like!!also causing a commotion. she likes to here over and over. the movie confused her cause the madonna she knows is from the Music era. I had explain that madonna changes and she was not born yet. Like i read in one of theses reviews, this is a madonna fan collectable..

My main complaint with this soundtrack is that it is extremely ackward to have "Don't Stop" crammed inbetween all that generic 80's sludge. Every cut on this album should have been sung by Madonna herself! This would have been a great opportunity to include some instrumentals or maybe a few covers. Anyway, my guess is that she didn't have much material left from the True Blue sessions or that she was saving the good stuff for Like A Prayer. Three stars for the four great Madonna songs - no stars for the rest of this stuff! If there is any justice in this world, the title track will make it onto an updated greatest hits CD someday!

Who's that girl is an essential purchase because it's the only place where you can get "who's that girl" (a #1 hit), "causing a commotion" (a top 10 hit) and "the look of love" (a moody early ballad in the tradition of live to tell). The other Madonna song "can't stop" is dreadful and like the rest of the material on this soundtrack represents the over-synthed dreck that represented pop music in the 80's: it sounded good at the time, but, boy, it sure doesn't hold up now. If The first three songs were available on other compilations I would have given this one only 1 star and advised you to stay clear.

It has only 4 songs of Madonna, and 3 of them are good
yes, Who's that girl, causing a commotion are great singles, but very soon went outdated and forgotten. I guess thats why she wouldn't include them in the Immaculate Collection

I always liked this soundtrack. I remember seeing the cover for the first time and that's what drew me too it. I think "Who's That Girl?" is one of her best songs. It is uplifting and fun.

There is an exploration of the existential in Madonna's work now that shows a definitive maturity. I think that the ability that sets Madonna apart the most is not simply being someone who manipulates media well but in truth two things: One, she's not a big fan of TV or indulging in the media, beign a puppet to it in watching it. Two, Marianne Williamson talks about that people who become legends do so because they tap into the concept of what the human consciousness is available to, needing to develop and that rings within all of us. It is that work that interests the rest of us.
