From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 2 --As a young boy and his father stroll outdoors on a winter day, the child asks his father if he loves him, to which his father replies reassuringly, "Yes, I love you very much." The boy questions his father as to why he loves him, suggesting that perhaps it is because he's strong, or fast, or brave, or funny. His father agrees that he loves him for all of those reasons and others too, and that he loves him even when he's naughty. Hearing that, the boy asks, "Why do I try to be good then?" The father tells him he doesn't know, and the boy concludes, "Because I love you too." Baynton's very simple, distilled story is warm and thoughtfully endearing. Soft pastel watercolors accompany the text . A lovely addition to picture-book collections. --Leslie Barban, Richland County Public Library, Columbia, SC
