Book Description

Sep 6 2005

With more than four million copies sold, Wifey is Judy Blume's hilarious, moving tale of a woman who trades in her conventional wifely duties for her wildest fantasies-and learns a lot about life along the way.

Sandy Pressman is a nice suburban wife whose boredom is getting the best of her. She could be making friends at the club, like her husband keeps encouraging her to do.

Or working on her golf game.

Or getting her hair done.

But for some reason, these things don't interest her as much as the naked man on the motorcycle...

4.0 out of 5 stars This ain't your daughter's Judy Blume! July 18 2004
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
As a fan of Judy Blume works as a kid, I was excited to read her "grown up" works as well . . . and grown up it is! I was actually a bit shocked by a lot of the graphic sex scenes and the language. At times I felt like I was reading some sort of trashy romance novel. Later, though, I realized that the graphic nature in which the main character describes these events are actually a reflection of just how frustrated and repressed she is. Overall, the book is very good - great writing, as always, from Judy Blume. The only drawback was all the sex . . . I daresay it made me blush. But, if you don't mind that, you will definitely enjoy the book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Left Me As Frustrated As The Main Character Jun 30 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book isn't what I'd call a "fun" read. It simply tells the story of a housewife who's got an itch to scratch but goes about it the wrong way.
It did have amusing parts, such as the description of her sex life with her husband (how horribly droll!) but in general, today's woman has more control and power in her life, her sexuality and her marriage and, hopefully, will not be able to relate as well to her.
I know that a book shouldn't be "predictable" but in this case I would have liked a cliché ending of "happily ever after". Rather, I was dragged along her journey of frustrations and felt like kicking her along the way.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wanted more sizzle Jun 9 2004
By Mazey
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was the story of a bored housewife, Sandy, who seems to be experiencing sexual regrets. The life she shares with her husband has become very predictable and he seems to only live for himself. In a kind of "house-wife rebellion" Sandy has two affairs and a half (the one deed was never completed) These escapades were almost as pathetic as her pre-existing sex life. I just wanted to see this poor lady go out and enjoy herself! The book was okay... but it needed something more.
